Greetings,
A Daily Declaration: We Will Serve the Lord
“And the people said to Joshua, ‘We will serve the Lord our God and obey him.’” – Joshua 24:24
Unpacking the Message of Joshua 24:24
This verse from Joshua 24:24 — “And the people said to Joshua, ‘We will serve the Lord our God and obey him’” — comes at a powerful moment of decision and renewal for the people of Israel. It is both a declaration and a covenant. Joshua, having led them into the Promised Land, confronts the people with a choice: continue to follow the Lord wholeheartedly or return to the gods of their ancestors and the surrounding nations. This verse captures their bold and public response — a commitment to serve and obey the Lord.
To unpack the depth and spiritual significance of this verse, we need to first understand the context. Joshua was nearing the end of his life, and as a faithful leader, he wanted to ensure that the people would continue to walk in obedience to God. He gathered the tribes and recounted all that the Lord had done — from the calling of Abraham to the deliverance from Egypt, to the victories in the Promised Land. His final message was clear: you must choose this day whom you will serve.
What we see in the people's response is not merely lip service but the recognition of a relationship based on covenant. Serving the Lord is not a matter of convenience or ritual. It's a choice of loyalty, allegiance, and obedience. And it comes with weight. They weren’t just acknowledging God’s existence — they were pledging their lives to align with His will.
In our own walk with God today, this verse challenges us with the same question Joshua posed to the Israelites: whom will we serve? The world offers countless distractions, idols of success, comfort, and personal ambition that draw our hearts away from singular devotion to God. But just like the Israelites, we are called to declare our allegiance — not just once, but daily, in every word, thought, and action.
What does it mean to serve the Lord? Serving God means orienting your entire life around His purposes. It means allowing Him to be not just your Savior but your King — the one who directs your decisions, shapes your values, and defines your identity. Serving implies surrender. It implies obedience. The people’s words — “We will serve the Lord and obey him” — point to two inseparable aspects of the Christian life: devotion and discipline.

We also must consider that this response was communal. The people didn’t speak as individuals but as a united body. There's tremendous strength when a community makes a shared commitment to honor God. In today’s world, where individualism often reigns, this passage invites us to embrace spiritual accountability. Who are the people in your life who remind you of your decision to serve the Lord? Who walks with you, holds you up, and speaks truth when you're tempted to stray?
Obedience to God is often tested when things don’t go according to plan. It's tested when circumstances press against our faith, when the world seems to reward compromise rather than righteousness. But when we, like the Israelites, remember all that the Lord has done, we find strength to keep saying, “Yes, Lord — we will serve You.”
Moreover, the verse points us toward a life of consistency. A one-time vow must be backed up by a lifetime of walking with God. That’s why Joshua didn't just stop at the people’s words — he went on to record their promise and erect a stone of witness. He knew how easy it is to forget, to drift. So the people’s declaration became a public, visible reminder of their covenant. We, too, need reminders. Sometimes it's a written prayer, a journal, a Scripture on the wall, or a weekly fellowship gathering. These things help anchor our hearts and keep us focused.
Finally, let’s reflect on the nature of obedience. God is not asking for blind compliance; He desires a relationship where trust leads to obedience. To obey God is to trust that His ways are higher than ours, that His plans are for our good, and that His commands are given in love. Obedience flows not from fear but from faith. When the people said, “We will obey Him,” they were recognizing God’s rightful authority and expressing their trust in His leadership.
So today, this verse invites you into a moment of renewal. Ask yourself honestly: is my heart fully committed to serving the Lord? Are there areas where I’ve been selective with my obedience? Am I following Jesus with both devotion and discipline?
Just as Joshua stood before the people of Israel and asked them to choose, the Holy Spirit still speaks today and asks us to reaffirm our commitment. Will you serve the Lord not just with your words, but with your whole life?
Because in choosing to serve the Lord, you are choosing life — not just in eternity, but here and now. You are stepping into the fullness of purpose, peace, and power that can only come from wholehearted devotion to the One who first chose you.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

Here's our 7-day journaling and prayer plan based on Joshua 24:24 —
“And the people said to Joshua, ‘We will serve the Lord our God and obey him.’”
This guide is crafted to help you reflect on what it truly means to serve and obey God wholeheartedly, deepening your commitment and clarity throughout the week.
Day 1: Declaring Your Allegiance
Reflect on the moment the Israelites declared their commitment to serve and obey the Lord. What does it mean for you personally to say, “I will serve the Lord”? Is there any area of your life where this allegiance feels partial or conflicted?
Prayer Focus: Ask God to examine your heart. Invite Him to expose anything competing for your devotion.
Day 2: Obedience in the Small Things
Think about the daily choices you make. Are you obeying God in the small, unseen moments — with your thoughts, words, time, and attitude? How does daily obedience reflect your love for Him?
Prayer Focus: Surrender the ordinary details of your day. Ask for the grace to walk in obedience even when no one else sees.
Day 3: Remembering His Faithfulness
The Israelites made their vow in response to God’s faithfulness. Look back on the ways God has shown up in your life. How does remembering His goodness stir a greater desire to serve and obey Him?
Prayer Focus: Thank God for the milestones of grace and mercy in your life. Ask Him to help you serve Him from a place of gratitude.
Day 4: When Obedience Is Hard
Are there commands of God that are difficult for you to follow? Areas where obedience feels costly, misunderstood, or inconvenient? What might God be teaching you through that tension?
Prayer Focus: Ask God for strength and a willing spirit. Invite Him to help you trust His wisdom more than your feelings.
Day 5: Serving with Joy
Is your service to the Lord marked by joy or duty? Reflect on how joy can be a powerful witness to others. Are there ways you can serve with more passion or purpose this week?
Prayer Focus: Ask God to renew your joy in serving Him. Pray that your obedience would overflow with love, not pressure.
Day 6: Leading by Example
Joshua led the people not just with words, but with his life. How are you leading in your home, workplace, or community? Are you modeling a life of obedience to God for others to see and follow?
Prayer Focus: Ask God to make you a faithful example. Pray for courage to lead even when others may not follow.
Day 7: Renewing the Covenant Daily
The Israelites renewed their covenant that day — a bold moment of commitment. Is your heart still tender to the Lord, or have you grown distant or distracted? What would it look like to renew your “yes” to God today?
Prayer Focus: Rededicate your life to the Lord in prayer. Tell Him again that you will serve and obey Him — not just once, but daily.

Closing thoughts as we pray for those reading or hearing this verse today...
Dear Beloved in Christ,
A Daily Declaration: We Will Serve the Lord
There is something deeply powerful about a collective declaration of faith — a shared commitment to live in obedience to our God.
The people of Israel made such a promise as they stood before Joshua:
“And the people said to Joshua, ‘We will serve the Lord our God and obey him.’” – Joshua 24:24
Let that same declaration be true for us today.
In a world full of distractions and divided loyalties, may we rise each morning with a renewed desire to serve the Lord — in our thoughts, in our words, in our actions.
Obedience isn’t just about following rules; it’s about loving God enough to trust Him with every step.
As you go about your day, ask the Holy Spirit to guide your decisions and shape your heart to be fully aligned with His will.
Together, let’s stand firm and declare: We will serve the Lord.
In Christ’s love 🙏🏻
