Greetings,
"We love because He first loved us." ✝️

Unpacking the Message of 1 John 4:19
1 John 4:19 is one of the simplest yet most profound statements in all of Scripture. The Apostle John writes, “We love because He first loved us.” In just a few words, he reveals the foundation, source, and motivation of genuine Christian love. This verse teaches that love does not begin with humanity reaching up to God, but with God reaching down to humanity. Every act of authentic love ultimately traces its origin back to the heart of God Himself.
The phrase “We love” speaks of a transformed life. John is not describing love as merely an emotion or personality trait. He is speaking about a love that has been produced by God's work within the believer. This love is demonstrated toward God, toward fellow believers, and even toward those who are difficult to love. It is evidence that God has changed the heart from the inside out.
The reason for this love is immediately explained: “because He first loved us.” This truth overturns the natural way people often think about relationships with God. Human beings did not earn God's affection through goodness, religious effort, or moral achievement. God's love came first. His initiative preceded every human response. Long before anyone sought Him, He was already pursuing humanity with grace.
God's love is therefore unconditional in its origin. Scripture teaches that while humanity was still sinful, rebellious, and separated from Him, Christ came to save. God's love was not a reaction to human worthiness but an expression of His own perfect character. This reminds believers that their relationship with God rests securely upon His faithfulness rather than their performance.
The greatest demonstration of God's love is found in Jesus Christ. The Father revealed His heart by sending His Son into the world to live, die, and rise again for sinners. The cross becomes the ultimate proof of “He first loved us.” Every sacrifice Jesus made reveals the depth of divine compassion and the lengths to which God was willing to go to redeem His people.
Because God loved first, the believer's love becomes a response rather than an attempt to earn acceptance. Christians do not love others in order to gain God's favor. They love because they have already received His grace. Obedience, compassion, forgiveness, and generosity become expressions of gratitude flowing from hearts that have experienced God's mercy.

This verse also reveals that true love cannot be sustained by human strength alone. Human love often depends upon circumstances, emotions, or how others behave. God's love is different. It remains faithful even when it is rejected. As believers remain connected to Christ, the Holy Spirit enables them to love with patience, kindness, humility, and perseverance that exceed natural ability.
First John 4:19 also transforms the way believers view themselves. Many struggle with feelings of rejection, insecurity, or unworthiness. This verse reminds them that their identity begins with being loved by God. Before they accomplished anything, before they succeeded or failed, God's love had already reached toward them. That truth provides lasting security that no circumstance can remove.
The verse also changes how believers view other people. Every person they encounter is someone created in God's image and someone Christ loved enough to die for. This perspective softens harsh judgment, weakens bitterness, and encourages compassion. Instead of asking who deserves love, believers begin asking how they can reflect the love they themselves have received.
Another important truth found here is that God's love produces humility. Since no believer earned God's love, there is no room for pride or spiritual superiority. Everyone stands equally in need of grace. Remembering this keeps hearts tender, grateful, and willing to extend forgiveness to others just as God has forgiven them.
This verse also reveals that Christian love is meant to become visible. The love believers receive from God should overflow into their homes, churches, workplaces, friendships, and communities. It is expressed through forgiveness instead of revenge, generosity instead of selfishness, patience instead of anger, and sacrificial service instead of personal ambition. The world encounters the love of Christ through lives that have first been transformed by His love.
Ultimately, 1 John 4:19 teaches that love is both the evidence and the fruit of knowing God. The closer believers grow to Jesus, the more naturally His love shapes their thoughts, attitudes, and actions. Their lives gradually become reflections of the One who loved them first.
In the end, this verse invites every believer to rest deeply in God's love before attempting to love others. It reminds them that they do not have to manufacture love through willpower or emotion. Instead, they are called to receive God's love continually and allow it to overflow through every part of their lives. When believers truly understand that they are loved first by God, their entire relationship with Him and with others is transformed, becoming a living testimony of the grace and love revealed through Jesus Christ.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

1 John 4:19 is about learning to live every day from the security of God's love instead of constantly trying to earn it.
“We love because He first loved us.”
This short verse contains one of the greatest truths in all of Scripture.
It teaches that everything in the Christian life begins with God's initiative.
You did not earn His love.
You did not persuade Him to love you.
You did not become lovable before He loved you.
He loved you first.
That truth changes everything.
If you don't apply this verse, you may:
• constantly seek approval
• struggle with insecurity
• love conditionally
• become discouraged by failure
• try to earn God's acceptance through performance
If you do apply it, you will:
• develop deep spiritual confidence
• rest in God's grace
• love others more freely
• forgive more easily
• become emotionally healthier
• reflect Christ more naturally
This verse is about receiving God's love deeply enough that it begins to overflow into every relationship and every part of your life.
1. Start every day remembering that you are already loved
Many believers begin each day thinking about:• responsibilities• failures• pressures• expectations
God wants you to begin by remembering His love.
Journal Prompt:
What usually shapes my identity each morning?
Is it:
• performance?
• responsibilities?
• mistakes?
• or God's love?
Application:
Before beginning your day, remind yourself:
"Today I am loved by God before I accomplish anything."
Your identity begins there.
2. Stop trying to earn what has already been given
Many Christians unknowingly live as though God's love depends upon today's obedience.
Journal Prompt:
Do I secretly believe God loves me more when I perform well spiritually?
Application:
Remember:
Obedience strengthens your fellowship with God.
It does not create His love.
Jesus already secured that.
3. Let God's love reshape how you see yourself
Many people define themselves by:• past failures• insecurities• rejection• criticism
God defines you differently.
Journal Prompt:
What labels have I accepted about myself that do not come from God?
Application:
Replace them with truth:
"I am loved."
"I am forgiven."
"I am adopted."
"I belong to Christ."
4. Learn to receive God's love instead of simply talking about it
Knowing about God's love is different from living in it.
Journal Prompt:
What prevents me from fully believing that God truly delights in me as His child?
Application:
Spend quiet time simply thanking God for loving you.
Not asking.
Not striving.
Receiving.
5. Let God's love become the source of your relationships
People often expect others to provide what only God can give.
Journal Prompt:
Am I asking people to give me security that only God's love can provide?
Application:
Healthy relationships begin when your deepest identity rests in Christ.
6. Love others from fullness, not emptiness
You cannot consistently give what you have not received.
Journal Prompt:
How has receiving God's love changed the way I love others?
Application:
When someone is difficult to love, remember:
God loved you before you deserved it.
7. Forgive because you have been loved
God's love makes forgiveness possible.
Journal Prompt:
Who do I struggle to forgive?
Application:
Ask yourself:
"How has God loved me when I least deserved it?"
That perspective softens the heart.
8. Stop fearing rejection
When your identity rests in God's love, rejection loses much of its power.
Journal Prompt:
Whose approval do I seek more than God's?
Application:
Remind yourself:
The approval that matters most has already been given through Christ.
9. Reflect God's love visibly
God's love is meant to flow through you.
Journal Prompt:
How can someone experience God's love through me today?
Application:
Show love through:
• patience
• encouragement
• generosity
• listening
• compassion
• forgiveness
10. End each day resting in God's love
Daily Reflection:
Did I live today as someone deeply loved by God?
Did fear or love shape my decisions?
How did I reflect Christ's love today?
Where do I need to receive His love more deeply?
Then pray:
"Father, thank You for loving me before I ever deserved it."
Final Truth
1 John 4:19 teaches this:
You do not begin with your love for God.
You begin with His love for you.
Everything else grows from that foundation.
Your obedience grows because He loved you.
Your worship grows because He loved you.
Your faith grows because He loved you.
Your forgiveness grows because He loved you.
Your compassion grows because He loved you.
The more deeply you understand God's love through Jesus Christ, the more naturally you become the kind of person who reflects that love to the world.
That is the secret of spiritual growth.
You do not become more like Christ by trying harder to love.
You become more like Christ by receiving His love more deeply every single day.

Closing thoughts as we pray for those reading or hearing this verse today...
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving us first. Before we ever sought You, You pursued us. Before we ever understood Your grace, You demonstrated it through Jesus Christ. Thank You for loving us with an everlasting, unconditional, and sacrificial love that is not based on our worthiness, but on Your perfect character.
Lord, help us never lose sight of the incredible gift of Your love. When we struggle with fear, insecurity, guilt, or feelings of unworthiness, remind us that Your love was never earned and can never be taken away from those who belong to Christ. Help us rest in the truth that we are deeply loved by You.
Jesus, thank You for proving the Father's love through Your life, Your cross, and Your resurrection. Thank You for willingly giving Yourself so that we could be forgiven, adopted into God's family, and brought into an eternal relationship with Him. Help us respond to Your love with wholehearted faith, joyful obedience, and sincere worship.
Holy Spirit, fill our hearts so completely with the love of God that it overflows into every part of our lives. Teach us to love others with the same patience, mercy, forgiveness, and compassion that You have shown us. Remove selfishness, bitterness, pride, and resentment, replacing them with a heart that reflects Christ.
Father, help us remember that genuine love begins with You. We cannot truly love as You have called us to love unless we first receive and remain in Your love. Draw us closer to You each day so that our lives become living testimonies of the transforming power of Your grace.
When relationships become difficult, remind us how much You have forgiven us. When we are tempted to judge, teach us to show mercy. When we encounter those who are hurting, help us become instruments of Your comfort and compassion. Let our words, actions, and attitudes point others toward Jesus Christ.
May Your love shape our thoughts, guide our decisions, strengthen our faith, and give us courage to live differently from the world. Help us love not merely with words, but through genuine actions that glorify You and reveal the heart of Christ.
Thank You for loving us before we ever knew You. Thank You for never giving up on us. May we spend every day growing deeper in our understanding of Your love and allowing that love to transform us into faithful followers of Jesus Christ.
In the mighty and compassionate name of Jesus Christ, Amen 🙏🏻
