Greetings,
Return to the Lord with All Your Heart ❤️
Scripture reminds us in Joel 2:13
"Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity."
Unpacking the Message of Joel 2:13
Joel 2:13 carries a timeless call that goes far beyond its ancient context. When the prophet Joel said, “Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity,” he was addressing a people who knew the power of outward religious rituals. In those days, when someone was in mourning, repentance, or deep anguish, it was common to tear garments as a symbol of grief and remorse. Yet Joel was urging the people to go deeper, to see that God was not impressed with outward displays alone. What He desires most is not the tearing of fabric, but the genuine brokenness, honesty, and surrender of the human heart.
This verse reminds us that God is not looking for showmanship in our faith. He is not moved by how dramatic our outward actions might appear. What He longs for is authenticity—a real turning of the heart back toward Him. Many people, then and now, can put on a display of piety, showing the world a polished version of themselves while hiding the truth of what lies within. But Joel’s words cut through that tendency and call us to live transparently before God. To rend the heart is to peel back the layers of pride, self-reliance, and pretense, and allow God to deal with us at the deepest level.
The second half of this verse gives us great hope, because it reveals the heart of the God we are returning to. Joel says He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, and abounding in love. These are not just fleeting qualities of God; they are the very essence of His nature. If repentance and returning to Him meant facing a harsh, quick-tempered, unforgiving God, it would be terrifying. But instead, we are reminded that the One who calls us back is patient and merciful. He does not delight in punishment or calamity. He longs to restore, heal, and embrace His children. This makes returning to Him not something to dread, but something to welcome with relief and joy.
Think about how freeing that is in your daily life. We often walk around carrying the weight of guilt, shame, or failure, feeling that if others saw the full truth of our hearts, they might turn away. But God already sees, and He invites us to return anyway. He already knows the brokenness, yet His compassion is greater than our sin. He already knows the mess, but His grace is sufficient to cleanse and redeem it. Joel 2:13 tells us that we don’t have to stay distant from God out of fear of rejection. Instead, we can return boldly, knowing that His arms are open wide.

In practical terms, rending our hearts might look like being honest with God in prayer. Instead of rehearsing polished words or surface-level petitions, it means pouring out what’s truly going on inside. It could mean confessing fears, doubts, struggles, or sins we’ve tried to ignore. It could mean letting down the mask we wear for others and saying, “Lord, this is the real me. I need You.” When we allow ourselves to come to God like this, we begin to experience the depth of His compassion and the abundance of His love in ways that go beyond anything a ritual or outward act could accomplish.
This verse also challenges us to consider whether our faith has become more about appearances than about relationship. Do we find ourselves going through the motions—attending church, saying the right things, giving the impression of spiritual health—while inside we are far from God? Joel’s message cuts through complacency and calls us to return with sincerity. God is not fooled by appearances, nor is He satisfied with half-hearted devotion. What He wants is all of us—our hearts fully yielded to Him.
Returning to God daily can be a practice, not just a one-time event. Each day offers a fresh opportunity to examine our hearts and realign them with His will. It means asking ourselves: Am I drawing near to Him in sincerity today, or am I relying on routine and appearance? Am I trusting in His compassion when I fail, or am I hiding from Him out of shame? The beauty of this verse is that no matter how many times we drift, the invitation to return is always open, and the character of God—gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, and abounding in love—remains constant.
Finally, Joel 2:13 points us toward a God who delights not in judgment, but in mercy. He is not eager to destroy; He is eager to redeem. When we fully grasp that truth, our hearts can rest in Him without fear. The call to rend our hearts is not meant to crush us, but to free us. It is an invitation to authenticity, to intimacy with God, and to the healing power of His love. By returning to Him daily, we find not condemnation, but compassion. We find not wrath, but restoration. And that truth has the power to transform our entire outlook on faith and life.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

Here’s our 7-day journaling plan built around Joel 2:13 —
“Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.”
Day 1 – Outward vs. Inward
Reflect on times when your faith has been more about outward actions than inward devotion. Write about how God might be calling you to move beyond appearances into genuine heart surrender.
Day 2 – Honest Confession
Take time to pour out what’s truly in your heart before God—your struggles, doubts, sins, or fears. Journal about what it feels like to be completely honest with Him, and how His compassion meets you there.
Day 3 – God’s Compassion
Meditate on the phrase “He is gracious and compassionate.” Write about how you’ve experienced God’s compassion in your own life. How has His gentleness carried you when you expected harshness?
Day 4 – Slow to Anger
Think about how patient God has been with you. Reflect on times when you might have deserved His discipline but instead received His mercy. Journal about how His patience has shaped your faith and trust.
Day 5 – Abounding in Love
Focus on God’s love that overflows without limit. Write about how His love reaches into areas of your life you’ve tried to hide or control. How does His abundant love invite you to live more freely?
Day 6 – Returning Daily
Reflect on what it means to “return to the Lord” every day, not just once. Journal practical ways you can re-center your heart on Him in small, daily choices—through prayer, Scripture, or acts of love.
Day 7 – Restoration and Hope
Write about the hope you find in knowing God relents from calamity and delights in restoration. How does this truth encourage you to face the future with confidence, no matter your past mistakes? End with a prayer of renewed dedication.

No matter where you’ve been or what burdens you carry, today is a new opportunity to return to Him fully. His arms are wide open, and His love is greater than any failure or fear.
