Greetings,
Live With Joy — God Has Already Approved
“Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do.” — Ecclesiastes 9:7
Unpacking the Message of Ecclesiastes 9:7
This verse from Ecclesiastes 9:7 is a deeply life-affirming piece of wisdom that speaks to the heart of God’s desire for us to live joyfully and gratefully. It can be tempting to overlook a verse like this because it seems so simple—eat, drink, and be glad. But within this command lies a rich theology of celebration, approval, and purpose that touches how we live every day.
First, this verse invites us to see our ordinary, daily life as something sacred. Eating food and drinking wine—these are not lofty spiritual disciplines or heroic acts of service. These are everyday human experiences. Yet God not only approves of them, but encourages us to approach them with joy. There is no separation between the spiritual and the mundane in this verse; it is all under the blessing and approval of God. What a freeing thought that our joy in life is not something we have to earn, but something already approved.
The verse also calls us to gladness—not merely a surface-level happiness, but a heart posture of joy and contentment. This kind of gladness is a choice, not a fleeting emotion. It requires intention. It requires you to slow down enough to enjoy your meal, to appreciate the glass of wine in front of you, to laugh with friends, to savor time with family, and to see the beauty of life as it is. We often think of holiness as struggle or sacrifice, but this verse suggests that holiness can also look like gratitude, joy, and full participation in the goodness of life.
The context of Ecclesiastes makes this even more profound. The author has reflected deeply on the meaninglessness of life under the sun, the vanity of human pursuits, the inescapability of death, and the limits of wisdom and wealth. And still, in the middle of that sobering reflection, comes this command: eat with gladness, drink with joy, because God has already approved what you do. In other words, even in a world full of uncertainty and mystery, the answer is not despair—it is to live fully in the moment, with faith that your life is already seen and blessed by God.
This also speaks to the idea of approval. Many people live under a heavy burden of trying to earn God's favor, striving to be good enough, holy enough, successful enough to be accepted. But this verse turns that idea on its head. It doesn’t say, “Try to live rightly so that God might approve.” It says, “God has already approved what you do.” This is a profound statement about grace. It doesn’t mean we live recklessly or irresponsibly, but it does mean that our starting point is not condemnation—it is blessing. Our lives are not a test to pass, but a gift to live.
It also challenges our views of religious asceticism—the belief that denial and strict control are the only ways to spiritual maturity. Ecclesiastes reminds us that there is a time for restraint, yes, but also a time for celebration. Joy and holiness are not at odds with each other. In fact, they may be more deeply linked than we think. Jesus himself celebrated at weddings, dined with sinners, broke bread with his disciples, and was accused of being a glutton and a drunkard—not because he was, but because he embraced life in a way that religious legalism found threatening. God wants us to delight in his creation, not shrink away from it.

There is also a layer of this verse that speaks against envy or comparison. So much of our stress and striving come from feeling like we have to match someone else’s version of success or spirituality. But this verse grounds you in your own life. It doesn’t say to be joyful because others are joyful—it says to be joyful with what you have, with the portion God has given you. Your food, your wine, your season, your life—this is what you are invited to enjoy.
There’s a humility in this kind of living too. It’s not about indulging in excess or making your joy dependent on perfection. It’s about recognizing the good in what you already have, trusting that the simple pleasures of life are holy and enough. It’s about seeing the hand of God in the everyday and not waiting for some future moment of success or breakthrough to finally be happy. Joy is now. God has already approved. That’s the message.
This verse also subtly reframes our understanding of purpose. If God has already approved what we do, then we are free to live not under pressure but under grace. We don’t live for approval, but from it. That means your work can be infused with joy. Your relationships can be more generous. Your self-worth doesn’t have to hang on your performance. You can eat and drink with gladness not because everything is perfect, but because God is with you in the middle of it all.
In summary, Ecclesiastes 9:7 offers a powerful invitation to joyful living rooted in God’s approval and grace. It asks us to slow down, to savor, to celebrate, and to trust that life itself—when lived with awareness of God’s presence—is holy ground. It calls us to release our anxieties about measuring up and to embrace the truth that joy is not selfish, but spiritual. Joy is not frivolous—it’s a form of worship.
So today, as you eat your next meal or raise your next glass, remember: God sees you. He delights in your delight. He’s already blessed the ordinary moments. Your job is not to impress Him—your job is to enjoy Him, and in doing so, to let that joy spill into everything you do.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!
