Greetings,

Unpacking the Message of Genesis 1:1–2
Genesis 1:1–2 opens the entire Bible with a declaration of God’s absolute authority, eternal existence, and creative power. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Before anything existed—before time, matter, light, or life—God already was. The Bible does not begin by trying to prove God’s existence because His existence is presented as the foundational reality behind everything else.
The phrase “In the beginning” marks the start of creation itself. Time begins here. This means God exists outside of time and is not limited by it. He is eternal, self-sufficient, and uncreated. Everything in existence has a beginning except God Himself. This truth establishes Him as the source of all life, purpose, and reality.
The word “created” is deeply significant because it reveals that creation did not happen by accident or random chance. God intentionally spoke the universe into existence. The heavens and the earth—the entirety of creation—came into being because of His will and power. This reveals a universe that is designed, purposeful, and sustained by God.
Genesis 1:1 also establishes God’s sovereignty. Because He is Creator, He has authority over all creation. Nothing exists independently of Him. Every star, every ocean, every living creature, and every human life owes its existence to the Creator. This truth gives meaning to life because humanity is not random or purposeless.
Verse 2 introduces a scene of incompleteness and disorder: “Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep.” The world at this stage lacks order, beauty, and fullness. The imagery conveys emptiness, chaos, and unformed potential. Yet even here, God is present and active.
The mention of darkness is important because throughout Scripture darkness often symbolizes confusion, emptiness, or separation. However, the darkness in Genesis is not outside God’s control. Even before light is spoken into existence, God is already sovereign over the chaos. This reveals that darkness never limits or threatens His authority.
The phrase “the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters” introduces the presence and activity of the Holy Spirit from the very beginning of creation. The Spirit is not absent during chaos but present within it. The image of hovering suggests care, preparation, and intentional movement before transformation occurs.

This detail carries deep spiritual meaning because it reveals how God works. Before order appears, His Spirit is already moving. Before light shines, His presence is already active. This becomes a pattern seen throughout Scripture: God brings life out of emptiness, order out of chaos, and hope out of darkness.
Genesis 1:1–2 also speaks into human experience. Many people experience seasons where life feels “formless and empty,” filled with uncertainty, confusion, or brokenness. These verses remind believers that God specializes in creating beauty where there seems to be none. The same Spirit that hovered over the waters still moves over lives today.
The passage also reveals the relationship between God’s Word and creation. Later in the chapter, God speaks, and creation responds. This points forward to Jesus Christ, who is revealed in John 1 as the eternal Word through whom all things were made. Creation itself anticipates Christ’s role in bringing both physical and spiritual life.
Genesis 1:1–2 teaches believers to trust God even when they cannot yet see the finished work. At this stage in creation, the earth appears incomplete and chaotic, yet God is already fully in control. What seems unfinished to human eyes is still under divine authority and moving toward God’s intended purpose.
Ultimately, these verses reveal the character of God as Creator, Sustainer, and Life-Giver. He is eternal, powerful, intentional, and present even in the midst of darkness and disorder. Nothing is beyond His ability to shape, restore, and transform.
In the end, Genesis 1:1–2 is not only the beginning of creation—it is the beginning of understanding who God is. It reveals a God who speaks life into emptiness, brings light into darkness, and moves powerfully even before transformation becomes visible. For believers, this truth becomes a foundation for faith, hope, and trust in every season of life.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

Genesis 1:1–2 is not just about the beginning of creation—it is about how God works in the middle of chaos, emptiness, uncertainty, and unfinished places in your life.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth… the earth was formless and empty… and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”
This passage teaches that before there was order, beauty, or clarity:
God was already present.
If you don’t apply this, you will:
• panic when life feels uncertain
• believe chaos means God is absent
• lose hope during unfinished seasons
If you do apply it, you will:
• trust God in uncertainty
• recognize His presence before answers appear
• develop peace during seasons of waiting
• believe God can create beauty from brokenness
This is about how you respond when life feels unformed, unclear, or difficult.
1. Remember that God is present before solutions appear
Before light existed…before order came…God was already there.
Journal Prompt:
What area of my life currently feels “formless” or uncertain?
Application:
Instead of focusing only on what feels unfinished, remind yourself:
“God is already present here.”
2. Stop interpreting chaos as abandonment
Many people assume:
“If life feels messy, God must be distant.”
Genesis 1 shows the opposite.
Journal Prompt:
Where have I mistaken confusion or waiting for God’s absence?
Application:
Replace the thought:
“Everything feels out of control”
with:
“God is still moving, even here.”
3. Learn to trust God before you see results
The Spirit hovered before transformation became visible.
Journal Prompt:
Do I trust God only after I see change?
Application:
Practice trusting during the process—not only after the breakthrough.
4. Let God redefine your “empty” seasons
Empty seasons often feel meaningless. But God creates from emptiness.
Journal Prompt:
What season of my life currently feels empty or unproductive?
Application:
Ask:
“What might God be preparing here?”
5. Stop rushing the process of transformation
Creation unfolded in stages—not instantly.
Journal Prompt:
Where am I becoming impatient with God’s timing?
Application:
Remember:
God often works gradually, deeply, and intentionally.
6. Invite the Holy Spirit into the unfinished places
The Spirit of God was active before order appeared.
Journal Prompt:
What part of my life needs God’s presence and guidance most right now?
Application:
Pray specifically:
“Holy Spirit, move in this area of my life.”
7. Build faith by remembering God’s creative power
The God who created the universe can transform your life too.
Journal Prompt:
What situation feels impossible or overwhelming to me?
Application:
Speak truth:
“The God who created light can bring clarity here too.”
8. Let this passage calm your fear of uncertainty
You do not need complete clarity to trust God.
Journal Prompt:
What uncertainty causes me the most anxiety?
Application:
Shift your focus from needing answers → trusting God’s character.
9. Recognize that God works in hidden ways first
Before visible change, God often works internally.
Journal Prompt:
What inner work might God be doing in me during this season?
Application:
Pay attention to:
• growth in patience
• deeper trust
• spiritual maturity
• changed desires
10. End each day remembering who God is
Daily Reflection:
• Where did life feel chaotic today?
• Did I recognize God’s presence anyway?
• What unfinished area do I need to trust Him with tonight?
Then pray:
“God, continue creating order, peace, and life within me.”
Final Truth
Genesis 1:1–2 teaches this...
God does His greatest work in places that seem:
• dark
• empty
• unfinished
• chaotic
And just because your life feels incomplete right now…
does not mean God has stopped creating.

Closing thoughts as we pray for those reading or hearing this verse today...
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for revealing Yourself as the Creator of all things. In the beginning, before there was order, light, or life, You were already there—powerful, sovereign, and full of purpose. When the earth was formless, empty, and covered in darkness, Your Spirit was still present, hovering over the waters and preparing to bring life from chaos.
Lord, help us remember this truth when our own lives feel uncertain, broken, or without direction. When we feel surrounded by confusion, fear, or emptiness, remind us that Your Spirit still moves over the places that seem dark and unfinished. Nothing is beyond Your power to restore and renew.
Jesus, thank You that You are the Word through whom all things were created. Speak life into our hearts where there has been discouragement. Bring light where there has been darkness and peace where there has been turmoil. Help us trust that You are still creating beauty out of brokenness.
Holy Spirit, move within us as You moved over the waters in the beginning. Bring order to our thoughts, clarity to our minds, and renewal to our souls. Shape us into people who reflect the life, hope, and truth of Christ.
Father, strengthen our faith to believe that You are always working, even when we cannot yet see the finished work. Just as You brought creation out of chaos, bring purpose, healing, and transformation into every area of our lives.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen 🙏🏻
