Greetings,
Choosing the Way of Blessing
"Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing." - 1 Peter 3:9

Unpacking the Message of 1 Peter 3:9
1 Peter 3:9 presents one of the most countercultural teachings of the Christian faith. The instruction to not repay evil with evil or insult with insult directly confronts the natural human instinct to defend oneself or seek revenge. In a world where retaliation is often celebrated as strength, this verse calls believers to a higher standard rooted in the character of Christ. It challenges the heart to respond not according to emotion, but according to faith and obedience.
At its core, this verse reflects the life and example of Jesus Himself. Christ endured mockery, betrayal, and suffering without retaliation. Instead of returning harm, He extended forgiveness and grace, even praying for those who crucified Him. When Peter calls believers to repay evil with blessing, he is inviting them to participate in the very nature of Christ’s redemptive love. This response is not passive; it is a deliberate act of trust in God.
The call to bless those who do harm is deeply connected to surrendering control. Retaliation often stems from a desire to regain power or restore personal dignity. Blessing, on the other hand, requires releasing the outcome into God’s hands. It acknowledges that God alone is the rightful judge and that His justice is more complete than any response we could manufacture. In choosing blessing, believers affirm their trust in God’s sovereignty.
This verse also reveals that Christian conduct is rooted in identity rather than circumstance. Believers are called to act in alignment with who they are in Christ, not according to how others treat them. When insults and offenses come, the response of blessing becomes a testimony that one’s security and worth are found in God, not in human approval or validation. This inward assurance empowers outward grace.
Peter emphasizes that this way of living is not optional; it is part of the calling of every follower of Christ. To bless in the face of evil is not reserved for the spiritually elite, but for all who have been transformed by the Gospel. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to respond in ways that defy natural instinct. What seems impossible in human strength becomes possible through divine grace.

The promise attached to this verse is equally significant. Peter reminds believers that they are called to this way of life so that they may inherit a blessing. This blessing is not merely material or circumstantial, but spiritual. It includes peace of heart, freedom from bitterness, and deeper intimacy with God. When believers choose obedience, they open themselves to God’s refining and rewarding work.
There is also a communal aspect to this teaching. Responding with blessing has the power to interrupt cycles of hostility and soften hardened hearts. While it may not always result in immediate reconciliation, it bears witness to the transforming power of Christ. Such responses often provoke reflection, curiosity, and even conviction in those who witness them.
Living out 1 Peter 3:9 requires ongoing humility and dependence on God. It is not a one-time decision but a posture of the heart cultivated through prayer, Scripture, and daily surrender. Each moment of choosing blessing over retaliation deepens spiritual maturity and aligns the believer more closely with the heart of Christ.
Ultimately, this verse invites believers to live as people shaped by eternity rather than momentary offense. It calls them to reflect the Gospel not only in words, but in reactions. By repaying evil with blessing, followers of Jesus demonstrate that love is stronger than hate, grace is greater than offense, and God’s way leads to true and lasting life.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

Opening Prayer for Journaling 1 Peter 3:9
Father God, I come before You with a willing heart. Your Word challenges me to live differently than the world around me, and I ask for Your grace to help me walk in obedience. As I reflect on this verse over the next seven days, soften my heart, renew my mind, and shape my responses to look more like Jesus. Teach me to bless where I would naturally retaliate. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Day 1 — Understanding the Call to Bless
Reflection: God’s call to bless instead of retaliate is not a suggestion—it is a calling rooted in the Gospel. This way of living reflects the heart of Christ and sets believers apart.
Journal Prompts:
• What emotions arise in me when I am wronged or insulted?
• How does God’s call to bless challenge my natural reactions?
• Why do I think this response is central to following Jesus?
Closing Prayer: Lord, help me understand Your calling more deeply. Prepare my heart to walk in obedience, even when it is difficult. Amen.
Day 2 — Releasing the Need for Revenge
Reflection: Retaliation often comes from a desire to protect ourselves or restore control. God invites us to release that burden and trust Him with justice.
Journal Prompts:
• What situations in my life tempt me to seek revenge or justification?
• What fears make it hard for me to let God handle these situations?
• How would trusting God with justice bring me peace?
Closing Prayer: Father, I release my desire for revenge into Your hands. Teach me to trust You fully. Amen.
Day 3 — Following the Example of Jesus
Reflection: Jesus is the ultimate model of blessing in the face of evil. His response to suffering reveals the heart of God and the power of grace.
Journal Prompts:
• How did Jesus respond when He was insulted or harmed?
• In what ways can I imitate Christ’s response today?
• What does the cross teach me about love and forgiveness?
Closing Prayer: Jesus, help me follow Your example. Shape my heart to respond with grace and truth. Amen.
Day 4 — The Freedom Found in Forgiveness
Reflection: Forgiveness is not approval of wrongdoing—it is freedom from the grip of bitterness. Blessing others releases the soul from carrying unnecessary weight.
Journal Prompts:
• Who do I need to forgive, even if they never apologize?
• How has holding onto offense affected my heart or peace?
• What freedom might God want to give me through forgiveness?
Closing Prayer: Lord, help me forgive as I have been forgiven. Free my heart from resentment and pain. Amen.
Day 5 — Blessing as an Act of Faith
Reflection: Blessing others when hurt requires faith that God is at work beyond what we can see. It is an act of obedience rooted in trust.
Journal Prompts:
• How does blessing others demonstrate trust in God?
• What blessings—spoken or acted—can I extend today?
• Where is God asking me to step out in faith through obedience?
Closing Prayer: Father, strengthen my faith to bless even when it costs me something. I trust You to work through my obedience. Amen.
Day 6 — Inheriting God’s Promise of Blessing
Reflection: God promises blessing to those who live according to His ways. This blessing includes peace, spiritual growth, and deeper intimacy with Him.
Journal Prompts:
• What kinds of blessings does God promise in His Word?
• How have I already experienced peace through obedience?
• What blessings might God be preparing through my faithfulness?
Closing Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your promises. Help me keep my eyes on eternal reward rather than temporary comfort. Amen.
Day 7 — Living as a Witness of the Gospel
Reflection: When believers bless instead of retaliate, they reflect the Gospel to the world. This way of living becomes a powerful testimony of Christ’s love.
Journal Prompts:
• How can my responses point others to Jesus?
• What has God taught me through this week of reflection?
• What commitment do I want to make moving forward?
Closing Prayer: Father, let my life reflect the Gospel in both words and actions. May my responses honor You and draw others to Christ. Thank You for transforming my heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Closing thoughts as we pray for those reading or hearing this verse today...
Dear Beloved in Christ,
Choosing the Way of Blessing
1 Peter 3:9 invites us into a way of living that looks radically different from the world.
When we are wronged or insulted, our natural response is often to defend ourselves or strike back.
Yet Jesus calls us higher... He shows us a better way—grace, forgiveness, and blessing.
This verse reminds us that responding with kindness instead of retaliation is not weakness; it is obedience rooted in faith.
When we choose to bless rather than curse, we reflect the heart of Christ, who repaid our sin with mercy and our rebellion with love.
In those moments, God shapes our character and draws us closer to Him.
As you walk through your days, ask the Lord for the strength to respond as He would.
Trust that He sees every injustice and promises blessing to those who follow His way.
Living like Jesus always leads to life, peace, and lasting reward.
Grace and peace to you. 🙏🏻
