Greetings,
If God Is For You… Who Can Stand Against You?
“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” — Romans 8:31

Unpacking the Message of Verse Romans 8:31
Romans 8:31 stands as one of the most powerful declarations of divine assurance in the entire Bible: “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” This single verse encapsulates the heart of Christian confidence. To meditate on it deeply for 15 minutes is to unpack a treasure trove of spiritual truth that reorients how we view struggle, identity, and destiny.
This verse begins with a rhetorical question—“What, then, shall we say in response to these things?”—which invites us to reflect on all that Paul had just written in the earlier parts of Romans 8. Leading up to this moment, Paul had outlined the life in the Spirit, the victory over condemnation, the promise of adoption as God’s children, the groaning of creation, and the unshakable hope believers have in the midst of suffering. He had just stated in Romans 8:28 that “all things work together for good for those who love God,” and then explained that those God foreknew, He predestined, called, justified, and glorified. Verse 31, then, becomes the natural crescendo to all of that theology: in light of these deep, eternal truths, how can anything oppose us if God is on our side?
What does it mean that God is for us? It doesn’t mean life will be easy, or that we’ll never face trials or enemies. Rather, it means that in the midst of hardship, God’s power, love, and purpose are never absent. His being “for us” means He is actively working on our behalf. He is not a distant observer; He is a personal Father who has bound Himself to our well-being. This echoes back to Psalm 118:6: “The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”
Paul then follows with the clincher: “Who can be against us?” He doesn’t deny that we have adversaries—Satan, sin, the world, and even our own doubts—but he asks, in light of God’s supremacy, who or what can possibly prevail against us? The answer is no one and nothing. Not because of our strength, but because of His sovereignty. The spiritual math of this verse is staggering: the Creator of the universe has committed Himself to our cause.
This verse also redefines our identity. Too often we define ourselves by what’s against us: stress, bills, disease, rejection, anxiety. But Romans 8:31 calls us to define ourselves by who is for us: God Himself. This changes how we pray, how we think, how we respond to bad news. It doesn’t erase pain, but it reframes it. We may face real opposition, but none of it has the final word.

Romans 8 continues to build on this confidence. Paul will go on to ask who can bring any charge against us, who can condemn us, what can separate us from the love of Christ. And each time, the answer is the same: no one and nothing. All of these truths flow from the fountainhead of verse 31: God is for us.
Spiritually, this verse should be a source of deep comfort and conviction. Comfort, because we are not alone in our struggles. Conviction, because if we believe God is for us, then fear and doubt lose their grip. The person who really believes Romans 8:31 can walk through storms with unexplainable peace. They can endure rejection knowing they’re accepted by the highest authority. They can face temptation knowing the power of God is greater.
This truth also breeds humility. It’s not that we are undefeatable on our own; it's that God’s presence makes the difference. The cross and resurrection of Jesus prove beyond a doubt that God is not just “for us” in word, but in sacrificial action. He did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all (Romans 8:32)—the ultimate evidence that His heart is bent toward our redemption.
For anyone who feels overwhelmed today, Romans 8:31 isn’t just a verse to quote, but a truth to stand on. If God is for you, no enemy can define you. No season can break you. No failure can disqualify you. The weight of eternity is on your side.
This verse also invites us to live boldly. Not recklessly, but courageously. If God is for us, what dream should we not pursue? What calling should we shrink back from? What obedience should we delay? The fear of man loses power when we’re convinced of the favor of God.
In the end, Romans 8:31 is not a promise of immunity, but of victory. It doesn’t say we won’t be attacked; it says the attack won’t succeed. It doesn't promise smooth sailing, but a safe arrival. God being for us is the eternal backdrop behind every trial we face and every victory we taste. And when we internalize that truth, it becomes the lens through which we interpret everything—past, present, and future.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!
