Greetings,
True Wisdom Begins with Reverence
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” — Proverbs 9:10

Unpacking the Message of Verse Proverbs 9:10
Let’s spend time diving deeply into the truth and power packed within Proverbs 9:10, which reads: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
This verse is one of the foundational declarations in all of Scripture. It answers two of the most important questions in life: Where does wisdom begin? And what is true understanding?
We begin with this phrase: "The fear of the Lord." This fear is not a terror that causes us to run from God, but a reverent awe that compels us to draw near. It's a holy respect and a deep recognition of who God is—His holiness, His power, His justice, His mercy. In our culture today, fear is often seen as negative, but in this context, it is the soil in which all true wisdom grows. It’s the posture of the heart that says, “You are God, and I am not.”
Why is this fear the beginning of wisdom? Because wisdom isn’t merely intelligence or cleverness. Wisdom is the proper application of knowledge in light of who God is. It’s the ability to live in a way that is rightly aligned with God’s design for the world. And that alignment begins when we first recognize God’s authority and place ourselves humbly before Him.
Many people pursue wisdom without starting here. They chase philosophy, education, success, or even spiritual experiences, but without the fear of the Lord, they are building on sand. Proverbs 1:7 echoes this truth by saying, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” This isn't about academic learning—it’s about the heart posture from which true wisdom flows.
The second part of the verse continues, “knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Understanding comes not just from knowing about God, but knowing God Himself. The word “Holy One” refers to God in His utter set-apartness. He is not like us—He is pure, eternal, majestic, unchanging. The more we know His character—His love, His justice, His faithfulness—the more we begin to understand life, our place in it, and how to respond rightly to what we face.
Understanding is not just an intellectual grasp—it’s the ability to discern, to interpret, to see rightly. And according to this verse, you can only have that when you know the Holy One. Not just know of Him, not just believe in Him as an idea, but walk with Him, trust Him, and learn His ways.

Think about how countercultural this is. The world tells us to start with ourselves: find your truth, chart your course, discover your passion. But God says, begin with Me. Look up first, not inward. Wisdom and understanding don’t flow from self-discovery but from God-discovery.
In practical terms, this verse invites a shift in how we live day to day. Before making decisions, do we pause to consider what God values? When we’re in conflict, do we seek His wisdom? When we’re afraid, do we remember who He is?
This verse is also deeply humbling. It reminds us that wisdom is not something we can simply acquire with effort or intellect alone—it is something imparted by God when we come before Him with the right heart. It is the product of relationship, reverence, and surrender.
Jesus Himself embodied this verse. Isaiah 11:2 speaks of Him as being filled with “the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,” and Luke 2:40 says He “grew in wisdom.” Christ's wisdom wasn’t just divine omniscience—it was also His perfect reverence and obedience to the Father. If we are to grow in wisdom, we must follow His example: seeking the Father, walking in humility, and living in awe of God's holiness.
Finally, this verse is a call to pursue not just what is smart, but what is holy. Many things may be clever, profitable, or appealing—but only the fear of the Lord leads to what is truly wise.
So as you meditate on this verse, ask yourself:
Do I live in a posture of reverent awe toward God?
Do I seek to know Him, not just to know about Him?
Do I value His wisdom above the world’s advice?
And do I walk in humility, remembering that wisdom begins not with self, but with surrender?
This is more than a proverb—it’s a pathway. And it’s one that leads to life, clarity, peace, and a deeper walk with the One who is Wisdom Himself.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

Closing thoughts as we pray for those reading or hearing this verse today...
Dear Beloved in Christ,
True Wisdom Begins with Reverence
In a world overflowing with information, what we truly need is wisdom.
Not the kind that puffs up, but the kind that leads to life, humility, and holy understanding.
That kind of wisdom starts in one place—reverence for God.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” — Proverbs 9:10
This holy "fear" isn't about being afraid of God—it's about standing in awe of His holiness, majesty, and mercy.
It means recognizing who He is and surrendering ourselves to His will above our own.
Let this verse be a daily anchor.
In every decision, every conversation, and every challenge, let the fear of the Lord guide you.
Pursue not just knowledge, but a deeper relationship with the Holy One—where true understanding begins.
Stay rooted in Him 🙏🏻
