Greetings,

"For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it." — Mark 8:35

Unpacking the Message of Verse Mark 8:35
The verse from Mark 8:35, “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it,” invites us into a radical reorientation of how we understand life, purpose, and fulfillment. It challenges the core of human instinct — the desire to preserve, protect, and prioritize self — and instead calls us into the paradox of divine exchange: true life is only found when it's surrendered.
To unpack this deeply, begin by considering the context in which Jesus spoke these words. He had just revealed to His disciples that He would suffer, be rejected, and ultimately killed. This news shocked them — especially Peter — who rebuked Jesus for saying such things. But Jesus wasn’t just predicting His own suffering; He was laying down the terms of discipleship. To follow Him means to let go of everything the world holds dear — status, self-preservation, comfort, even physical life — in order to gain what is eternally valuable.
This verse calls into question what we define as "saving" our life. In a modern sense, we often associate saving our lives with achieving personal success, financial security, or avoiding pain and discomfort. But Jesus is saying that clinging to life on these terms ultimately leads to loss. Why? Because life apart from God — no matter how successful it may seem — is disconnected from its source. It’s like a branch cut off from the vine: it may appear vibrant for a moment, but it withers without the life of the vine.
On the other hand, “losing” one’s life for Christ and the gospel means surrendering control, ambition, and self-interest to follow where He leads. It’s not about martyrdom alone — although it certainly includes that — but about day-to-day dying to self. It's seen in forgiving when you'd rather stay bitter, giving when you'd rather hoard, speaking truth when you'd rather stay silent, or choosing integrity when compromise seems easier. This is the life of the cross.
This surrender might look like loss to the world, but to God, it’s the pathway to salvation. There is something eternally secure about letting go of what you cannot keep to gain what you cannot lose. In a society obsessed with self-care, self-promotion, and self-reliance, Jesus flips the script and tells us that fulfillment is not in building a personal kingdom but in participating in His.
This verse also reflects the beautiful tension of Christian freedom — losing your life is not a miserable sacrifice; it's an invitation into wholeness. When you surrender your plans for His purpose, your heart begins to beat with eternal rhythm. You begin to see through a lens that values souls over applause, peace over popularity, and obedience over opportunity.

Think about how this principle plays out in everyday relationships. In marriage, “losing your life” might mean yielding your preferences for the sake of unity. In parenting, it might look like sacrificing time or sleep to nurture your children in the Lord. In your workplace, it might involve choosing honesty even when deceit might earn you a quick win. All these choices are seeds of surrender that grow into eternal reward.
This verse is also a safeguard against spiritual consumerism. Many approach God asking, "What can He do for me?" But Jesus makes it clear that the call to follow Him is not transactional but transformational. He doesn’t promise an easier life, but He promises a better one — a redeemed one. And the reward is not just in eternity; it starts now. There’s joy and peace in knowing your life is hidden with Christ, even when the world doesn’t understand your choices.
The deeper we reflect on this passage, the more we understand that the Christian life is not about addition — adding Jesus to our already packed agenda — but about substitution. We don't just fit Him in. We lay everything else down so He becomes the agenda. This surrender isn’t meant to be burdensome, but liberating. For in giving Him everything, we gain everything that truly matters.
If you’ve ever felt like holding on tightly to your plans or comfort zones, hear the echo of Christ’s call: “Let it go. Follow Me. I’ll give you real life.” You don't have to fear the loss. The loss is the doorway to life that is abundant, vibrant, and everlasting.
Ultimately, this verse invites us to ask a hard but honest question: What are we trying to save that Christ is asking us to surrender? What dreams, fears, relationships, or identities are we gripping so tightly that we’re missing the life Jesus is offering?
The answer to that question might not come instantly, but sitting with it — prayerfully, openly, humbly — is one of the holiest things you can do. Because the one who calls you to lose your life is the same one who laid His life down for you. You can trust Him with yours.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

Matthew 6:19-21
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Here is a 7-day journaling plan based on Mark 8:35: “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.”
Day 1 – Reflect on Surrender
Write about areas of your life where you are clinging to control. Where are you trying to “save your life” on your own terms?
Reflect on what it would look like to surrender those areas to Christ, trusting Him instead of your own strength.
Day 2 – Count the Cost
Following Jesus costs something. Journal about the sacrifices you’ve been asked to make in your walk of faith.
What comforts, ambitions, or relationships have been tested? How has God proven faithful through your obedience?
Day 3 – What Does It Mean to “Lose Your Life” for Jesus?
Explore what “losing your life” means practically for you. It doesn’t necessarily mean martyrdom—it can mean dying to selfish ambition, pride, or worldly desires.
Consider how you can embrace a lifestyle of daily sacrifice and humility.
Day 4 – Eternal Perspective
Compare the temporary things you sometimes chase with the eternal reward Jesus promises.
Journal about what it means to live for something bigger than yourself. How does an eternal perspective change the way you make decisions or respond to hardship?
Day 5 – Gospel-Centered Living
Think about how your life is aligned—or misaligned—with the gospel. Are your values, goals, and actions shaped by the good news of Jesus Christ?
Journal about what needs to change in your life to reflect the power and truth of the gospel more fully.
Day 6 – Jesus as Worth It All
Spend time journaling about the worth of Jesus. Why is He worthy of your full surrender?
Recall specific times when following Him has brought joy, freedom, or transformation. Remind yourself why He is worth any sacrifice.
Day 7 – Commitment Pray
Write a prayer of commitment, asking God to help you live fully surrendered to Him.
Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your heart and mind so you will not seek to preserve a self-made life, but to trust in the new life Jesus gives.
Use each day to go deeper—not just in thought, but in action. Faith that changes your life is lived out, not just written down.

Closing thoughts as we pray for those reading or hearing this verse today...
Dear Beloved in Christ,
True Life Begins When We Let Go
In a world that constantly tells us to chase comfort, security, and self-preservation, Jesus offers us a radically different call:
"For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it." — Mark 8:35
Following Jesus means surrendering our own agenda.
It means letting go of control, choosing obedience over comfort, and placing the gospel above personal gain.
But here’s the beautiful truth — what we lose in this world, we gain tenfold in Christ.
When we lay our lives down for Him, we find true life: purpose, peace, and eternity in His presence.
Don’t be afraid to let go of what the world calls “life.”
The life Jesus gives is deeper, freer, and forever.
In Christ’s love 🙏🏻
Stay surrendered. Stay bold. Stay faithful.
