Greetings,
Transformed By His Glory
"And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."
— 2 Corinthians 3:18
Unpacking the Message of Verse 2 Corinthians 3:18
2 Corinthians 3:18 is a profound verse that speaks to the ongoing transformation of believers into the image of Christ. It describes a process of sanctification, where we are progressively shaped into the likeness of Jesus by the work of the Holy Spirit. This transformation is not instantaneous but rather a lifelong journey that draws us closer to God's character and purpose.
The imagery of "unveiled faces" is significant. It refers back to Moses in Exodus 34, who covered his face with a veil after encountering God's glory because the people were afraid of its radiance. Under the old covenant, God's glory was veiled and inaccessible to most, but through Christ, the veil is removed. As believers, we now have direct access to God’s presence and can reflect His glory openly and freely. This means that we are no longer separated from God by sin or law, but instead, we stand in His grace, continually being renewed.
Being “transformed into his image” emphasizes that our faith is not static. True Christianity is about continual growth. The word "transformed" comes from the Greek word metamorphoō, the same root word for "metamorphosis," which describes a radical change—like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. This transformation into Christ’s image is not simply about changing external behavior; it is about a deep, inner renewal that affects every part of our being.

This process happens “with ever-increasing glory.” Unlike the fading glory of Moses’ face, which was temporary, the glory we receive in Christ is increasing and everlasting. This tells us that the Christian life is one of continual upward progress. Even when we face trials or setbacks, God is still at work, refining us. Every challenge, every act of obedience, every moment in prayer contributes to our spiritual growth, making us more like Christ.
The verse also makes it clear that this transformation is not something we achieve on our own. It “comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” The Holy Spirit plays the central role in our sanctification, guiding, convicting, and empowering us to live according to God’s will. Without the Spirit, we remain in our old nature, but with Him, we are renewed daily. This aligns with other passages, such as Romans 12:2, which urges believers to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
One key application of this verse is the importance of spending time in God's presence. Just as Moses' face shone because he had been with God, our lives are transformed the more we seek Him. This happens through prayer, worship, reading Scripture, and obedience. The more we focus on God, the more we reflect His character—His love, patience, kindness, and wisdom.
Another practical takeaway is that spiritual growth requires surrender. We cannot force transformation through sheer willpower. It happens as we yield to God’s work in our lives, allowing Him to shape us. This means letting go of old habits, attitudes, and mindsets that do not align with Christ. The more we surrender, the more room there is for His glory to shine through us.
This verse also speaks to the communal nature of transformation. While it is a personal journey, it is not meant to be walked alone. The Church, as the body of Christ, is a place where we sharpen and encourage one another. As we each grow in Christ, we collectively reflect more of His glory to the world.
Ultimately, this transformation has an eternal purpose. We are not just being shaped for this life; we are being prepared for eternity. When Christ returns, our transformation will be complete, and we will fully reflect His glory in a way we cannot yet comprehend. Until then, we continue in faith, knowing that God is at work in us, making us more like His Son every day.
Closing thoughts as I pray for those reading or hearing this verse today...
What an incredible promise—we are being transformed daily into the image of Christ!
As we seek Him, spend time in His presence, and walk in obedience, He is shaping us into something greater.
This transformation is not by our own strength but by the power of the Holy Spirit working within us.
No matter where you are in your journey, trust that God is refining you.
Every challenge, every victory, and every moment of surrender brings you closer to His likeness.
Keep your eyes on Him, and let His glory shine through you!
Blessings 🙏🏻
