Greetings,
The Same God Who Spoke Light Still Speaks Today
“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” — Genesis 1:3
Unpacking the Message of Genesis 1:3
Let’s take time to sit with Genesis 1:3, “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” At first glance, this verse feels like a simple record of creation, but when we slow down and meditate on it, we realize it carries profound truths that touch every corner of our lives.
From the very beginning, we see the creative power of God’s Word. Notice that nothing physical was required, no tools, no materials—only His Word. God spoke, and light burst forth into existence. This is not just about the physical light that allows us to see the world around us. It’s a declaration that God’s Word brings order into chaos, clarity into confusion, and hope into darkness. That is as true today as it was in the very first moment of creation.
Think about the setting here. Before God spoke, the earth was formless and void, covered in darkness. There was nothing to grab hold of, nothing to direct life. Then the voice of God cut through that emptiness, and suddenly there was light. This reminds us that no matter how dark or formless our lives may feel at times, God has the power to speak into those situations and bring about transformation. Some of us may be walking through seasons where it feels like nothing makes sense—when grief, anxiety, or uncertainty cloud our vision. Genesis 1:3 teaches us that God’s voice is still capable of creating light in those places.
Another rich truth here is the connection between light and life. Throughout Scripture, light is a recurring symbol of God’s presence, His holiness, and His guidance. In John 1, we’re told that Jesus is the true light who came into the world, and that the darkness cannot overcome Him. The very first creative act of God was to bring light, and in the New Testament, we see that fulfilled through Christ, who brings spiritual light into every human heart willing to receive Him. What began in Genesis as physical illumination culminates in Jesus as spiritual illumination. That means this verse doesn’t just tell us what God did—it points us to who God is.
We also see here the authority of God’s Word. He doesn’t negotiate with the darkness. He doesn’t push or fight against it. He simply speaks, and darkness retreats. That’s how powerful the Word of God is. And for us, as believers, this should give us confidence. When we cling to His promises, when we meditate on His Word, we are tapping into the same authority that spoke the universe into being. Think about that: the same Word that created galaxies is the Word available to strengthen your faith, to comfort your heart, and to direct your steps.
This verse also invites us to reflect on our own lives. If God can speak light into creation, what areas of our hearts or minds need His light today? Maybe there’s bitterness or unforgiveness we’ve carried for too long. Maybe it’s fear about the future, or guilt from the past. Darkness thrives in secrecy and silence, but the moment we invite God’s light in, healing and renewal begin. It’s why prayer and Scripture reading are so vital—not as religious duties, but as ways of welcoming God’s light into our daily existence.

There’s also a practical challenge here for us as followers of Jesus. In Matthew 5, Jesus tells us that we are the light of the world. That means God doesn’t just call us to bask in His light—He calls us to reflect it. Just as the moon reflects the sun, our lives are meant to reflect His truth, His love, and His holiness to a dark world. Genesis 1:3 reminds us that light is not optional. It’s necessary. Without it, nothing flourishes. The same is true spiritually. Without God’s light, people stumble. With it, lives are restored. We have the privilege of carrying that light wherever we go.
It’s also worth noting the simplicity of the moment. God said, “Let there be light.” Just four words in English, yet those four words forever changed reality. Sometimes we think that God’s work in our lives has to be complicated or drawn out, but His power can bring instant change. One word, one touch, one command from Him can shift everything. That should fill us with hope as we pray and as we wait on Him. He is not limited by time or circumstance.
Finally, Genesis 1:3 should move us to worship. The God who created light out of nothing is the same God who calls us His children. The same God who spoke galaxies into being bends His ear to hear your prayers. This verse is not just about light—it’s about relationship. It’s about the One who steps into darkness again and again to bring hope, life, and love.
So, as we reflect on this verse, let’s ask ourselves: Where do I need God’s light right now? Where can I carry His light for someone else? And how can I remain rooted in His Word, so I never forget the power of the voice that first said, “Let there be light”?
This isn’t just a story of creation. It’s a daily invitation. An invitation to believe that God still speaks. An invitation to trust that darkness doesn’t get the final word. An invitation to live as bearers of His light in a world desperately in need of hope.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

Here’s our 7-day journaling plan based on Genesis 1:3 —
“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”
Each day builds on the theme of God’s light in creation, in us, and through us...
Day 1: God Speaks Light into Existence
Reflect on the power of God’s Word to create. Write about how it feels to know the same God who said, “Let there be light” speaks life into your own heart. Where do you sense Him bringing something new?
Prompt: What area of your life do you want God to speak light into today?
Day 2: Light Overcomes Darkness
Darkness never has the final word when God shines His light. Consider times in your life when light has broken through seasons of fear, despair, or confusion.
Prompt: What “darkness” is God calling you to surrender to His light right now?
Day 3: Jesus, the Light of the World
Read John 8:12 alongside Genesis 1:3. Journal about how Jesus brings spiritual light into the world, guiding us just as physical light guides our steps.
Prompt: How is Jesus guiding your steps in this current season of life?
Day 4: Light Within Us
As children of God, His light dwells within us. Think about how God’s light has changed you—your character, your decisions, your perspective.
Prompt: In what ways has God’s light transformed you, and how do you want it to keep shining brighter?
Day 5: Reflecting God’s Light to Others
We are called to let our light shine before others (Matthew 5:16). Reflect on your daily life—your workplace, home, or community.
Prompt: How can you reflect God’s light in the relationships and spaces you enter this week?
Day 6: Light in the Midst of Trials
Even in hardships, God’s light leads and sustains. Recall a difficult moment where God’s presence became your light.
Prompt: Where do you need to lean on God’s light in the midst of current challenges?
Day 7: Living as a Light-Bearer
As you close the week, reflect on your identity as one who carries God’s light into the world.
Prompt: What is one intentional way you can carry God’s light forward into the next week?

Closing thoughts as we pray for those reading or hearing this verse today...
Dear Beloved in Christ,
The Same God Who Spoke Light Still Speaks Today ✨
From the very beginning, God showed us His power and His heart with these words:
“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” — Genesis 1:3
In one moment, darkness fled at the command of His voice. That same God who spoke creation into existence is the One who speaks into your life today.
No matter how deep the darkness may seem, His light still breaks through—bringing clarity, hope, and direction.
Take heart, dear friend, because the Creator who filled the world with light is more than able to fill your heart, your home, and your journey with His radiant presence.
Keep walking in His light 🙏🏻
