Greetings,
The Power of Your Words, in God's Timing
“A person finds joy in giving an apt reply—and how good is a timely word!” — Proverbs 15:23

Unpacking the Message of Verse Proverbs 15:23
Proverbs 15:23 says, “A person finds joy in giving an apt reply—and how good is a timely word!” This verse is a gentle yet profound insight into the power of our words, the joy of thoughtful communication, and the divine wisdom in speaking at the right moment.
At the heart of this verse is the recognition that our words carry weight—not just in their meaning, but in their timing. An “apt reply” implies something more than just being correct or informative. It’s about relevance, compassion, and discernment. When someone receives a word that fits their exact emotional or spiritual need in the moment they need it, it’s not just helpful—it’s healing. Think of times when someone said exactly what you needed to hear in a moment of uncertainty, grief, or celebration. That kind of reply doesn’t just satisfy curiosity or answer a question; it nourishes the soul.
This verse also highlights a deep spiritual principle: joy is found not just in receiving but in giving the right word. It’s a reminder that as believers, we are invited into the privilege of speaking life into others. To give an apt reply is to participate in the work of the Holy Spirit. When you are aligned with God’s wisdom, your speech becomes a vessel of grace, encouragement, and direction.
Notice, too, the word “timely.” There are words that are true but mistimed—and they can fall flat or even wound. Then there are words that, though perhaps simple, are spoken at just the right moment, and they unlock peace, joy, or clarity for someone. Jesus Himself modeled this perfectly. Think about how He spoke to the woman at the well in John 4, or how He waited before going to Lazarus, arriving not early, but on time—to reveal God’s glory. His words always carried truth, but they were also attuned to the perfect time.

This verse also points us toward a life of attentiveness. To offer an apt reply, we must be present. We must listen, not just to what people say, but to what they aren’t saying. Being able to give a timely word means we’re not rushing to speak, but we’re discerning. James 1:19 reinforces this: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.” This posture of humility and attentiveness creates space for the Holy Spirit to guide our words.
In a world saturated with instant communication—where opinions fly fast and facts are twisted—the Christian is called to something radically different: to speak words that are soaked in wisdom, love, and intentionality. Words that are not just reactive, but redemptive. Proverbs 25:11 expands this idea: “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.” It’s beautiful, it’s valuable, and it has lasting impact.
This proverb can also be taken as an encouragement for those who teach, counsel, or minister. There’s joy when you’ve prayed over a conversation, and the Holy Spirit gives you the exact words needed. It reminds us that God is in our speech when we surrender it to Him. And that when our words carry the tone of heaven, they do far more than we imagine.
Ultimately, this verse invites us into a daily practice: speak less aimlessly and more prayerfully. Ask the Lord, “Who needs a word from You today through me?” Whether you’re texting a friend, responding to a co-worker, or speaking to a loved one, your reply can be apt—your word, timely. And when it is, both you and the one you speak to will be blessed.
There’s a unique kind of joy that only comes when we realize that God used our voice to lift someone else. Not because we’re eloquent, but because we were available. That's the joy Proverbs 15:23 is talking about. It’s the quiet celebration of having participated in God’s work—just by opening your mouth at the right time, with the right heart.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

Matthew 6:19-21
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Here’s a 7-day journaling plan based on Proverbs 15:23 — “A person finds joy in giving an apt reply—and how good is a timely word!” — designed to help you reflect deeply, grow spiritually, and become more intentional with your speech throughout the week.
Day 1 – The Power of Words
Reflect on a time when someone spoke a timely word into your life. How did it impact your mood, decision, or faith?
Journal about how that moment shaped your understanding of encouragement and wisdom. Ask God to make you more aware of the power of your own words.
Day 2 – Listening Before Speaking
Write about your current habits of listening. Do you feel that you’re quick to speak or quick to listen?
Reflect on James 1:19 and consider how better listening could help you offer more “apt replies.” Invite God to help you slow down and tune in to others.
Day 3 – Speaking with Purpose
Think of someone who may need a word of encouragement, truth, or comfort today. What might a “timely word” look like for them? Ask the Lord to guide your words and write out what you might say.
Consider following through and sharing that message today.
Day 4 – Finding Joy in Encouraging Others
Write about the joy you’ve experienced from encouraging someone else. What was the response? How did it feel knowing your words helped?
Pray for more opportunities to speak life and light into others this week, and journal about how God might be preparing you.
Day 5 – The Holy Spirit and Your Speech
Meditate on the idea that the Holy Spirit can give you words in the moment you need them (Luke 12:12).
Reflect on whether you’ve experienced this before. Ask God to give you courage to speak and wisdom to know when—and when not—to.
Day 6 – Healing vs. Harm
Reflect on Proverbs 12:18—“The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”
Journal about whether your words have brought healing or harm lately. Ask for forgiveness where needed and recommit your speech to the Lord.
Day 7 – Becoming a Messenger of Timely Words
Think about what kind of person you want to be when it comes to your communication. Ask God to help you become someone known for offering “apt replies” full of grace and truth. Write a prayer of surrender, asking God to use your words for His glory.
You can return to this guide monthly to develop a deeper discipline around speech and spiritual discernment. Over time, you may begin to experience the joy Proverbs 15:23 speaks of—not just in what you say, but in how God uses it.
