Greetings,
The Power of Asking in His Name
Jesus gives us this beautiful promise in John 14:13 - “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
Unpacking the Message of John 14:13
John 14:13 says, “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” This verse carries a profound promise, but also a responsibility for those who believe. It is not meant to be read as a blank check where we demand anything we want from God and expect instant fulfillment. Instead, it reveals the heart of prayer, the power of Christ’s name, and the purpose of aligning our lives with the glory of the Father.
To begin, it’s important to see the context of Jesus’ words. He was speaking to His disciples on the eve of His crucifixion, preparing them for His departure. They were troubled, confused, and about to face persecution. Jesus wanted to assure them that even though He would not be physically present with them, His power and authority would still be available through prayer in His name. This was not only encouragement, but a commissioning. He was teaching them that His name carried authority in heaven and on earth, and that they could call upon Him to accomplish the work of God.
When Jesus says, “I will do whatever you ask in my name,” He is not inviting us to use His name as a magical formula or a spiritual code word. To ask in His name is to ask in alignment with His character, His purposes, and His will. His name represents who He is—His authority, His mission, His nature. If you think about it, a name in Scripture always carries meaning. God revealed His name to Moses as I AM, expressing His eternal, self-existent nature. When Jesus teaches us to pray in His name, He is inviting us to attach our requests to His identity, His authority, and His glory.

This changes how we approach prayer. Instead of coming to God with a long list of self-centered desires, we begin to ask, “Lord, how can my requests bring glory to Your name? How can this prayer align with what You want to accomplish in my life and in the world?” Suddenly, prayer becomes less about getting God to move for us and more about allowing God to move through us. It becomes partnership instead of petition, alignment instead of demand.
There is also a beautiful promise attached to this verse: “so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” That is the ultimate purpose of prayer. Every answered prayer, every miracle, every provision, every moment of grace—when it comes through the name of Jesus—it glorifies the Father. This means that when we pray in Jesus’ name and our prayers are answered, the outcome is never simply for our benefit, but always for the honor of God. It draws attention to Him, not us. It magnifies His power, His goodness, and His faithfulness.
Consider how this plays out in everyday life. When you pray for patience with a difficult coworker and God grants it, the peace you carry into that relationship becomes a testimony of His Spirit within you. When you pray for wisdom in a challenging decision and God provides clarity, the outcome showcases His guidance and sovereignty. When you pray for healing—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—and God moves, the healing itself glorifies the Father through the Son. In every case, the focus shifts from what you gain to how God is honored.

This verse also challenges us to grow in discernment. If we find our prayers going unanswered, it is not because the promise of Jesus has failed. It may be because what we are asking is not in His name—not aligned with His will, His purposes, or His timing. Learning to pray in His name means being willing to surrender our desires and trust that His ways are higher than ours. It means seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and trusting that all other things will be added in their proper place.
Another layer of this verse is the invitation to boldness. Jesus did not say, “Ask timidly.” He said, “I will do whatever you ask in my name.” That is a call to pray with faith, confidence, and expectation. Too often, we limit our prayers to what seems possible by human standards. But Jesus reminds us that we are not limited to human possibility when we pray in His name. We are connecting with the power of heaven itself. Asking in His name gives us access to the resources of God for the sake of His glory. That means we can pray for the impossible, believing that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or imagine.
This also means prayer is not just a private spiritual exercise; it is a tool for advancing the kingdom of God. The disciples needed to know this because they would face opposition, persecution, and hardship. They needed the assurance that when they prayed in the name of Jesus, heaven would respond. The same is true for us today.

When we intercede for our families, our communities, our nation, or the world in Jesus’ name, we are participating in God’s kingdom work. We are inviting His power to flow through us into the broken places of the world.
Ultimately, John 14:13 teaches us that prayer is not about manipulating God, but about glorifying Him. It invites us to bring our needs, our dreams, and our concerns before Him, but with the posture of surrender and alignment. It reminds us that Jesus is not distant or disconnected—He is actively interceding for us, and He delights in doing what we ask when it brings glory to the Father. And it calls us to pray with confidence, knowing that when our hearts align with His, our prayers carry the authority of His name.
So the next time you pray, pause and reflect on this verse. Ask yourself: Is this request in Jesus’ name? Does it reflect His character, His purposes, and His will? Will it glorify the Father through the Son if it is answered? If the answer is yes, then pray boldly, with confidence, trusting that Jesus’ promise still stands today: “I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

Here’s our 7-day journaling plan based on John 14:13 — “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
The plan will help you explore what it means to pray in Jesus’ name, align with His will, and live for God’s glory.
Day 1: The Promise of Jesus
Prompt: Reflect on what it means to you that Jesus promises to do “whatever you ask in my name.” How does this shape your understanding of prayer?
Prayer Focus: Thank Jesus for making His power and authority available through prayer.
Day 2: Asking in His Name
Prompt: What do you think it truly means to pray “in His name”? Write about how this differs from simply adding “in Jesus’ name” at the end of a prayer.
Prayer Focus: Ask God to help you align your prayers with the character and mission of Christ.
Day 3: Surrendering Desires
Prompt: Write about an area of your life where your prayers may have been more focused on your will than God’s. How can you surrender that to Him?
Prayer Focus: Pray for a heart that is willing to let go of self-centered desires and embrace God’s perfect will.
Day 4: The Glory of the Father
Prompt: Journal about ways answered prayers in your life have brought glory to God. How can you point others to Him through your testimonies?
Prayer Focus: Ask God to use your life and prayers as a testimony that glorifies the Father through the Son.
Day 5: Boldness in Prayer
Prompt: Reflect on a prayer that feels too big or impossible. Write about how John 14:13 encourages you to bring it to Jesus anyway.
Prayer Focus: Pray boldly, believing that God can do more than you imagine when your heart is aligned with His purposes.
Day 6: Unanswered Prayers
Prompt: Journal about a prayer God hasn’t answered the way you hoped. How might His “no” or “not yet” still bring Him glory?
Prayer Focus: Ask for peace and trust in God’s timing and wisdom, even when prayers seem unanswered.
Day 7: Living in His Name
Prompt: Reflect on what it would look like to live each day as a prayer in Jesus’ name—your actions, words, and decisions. How can your life itself glorify the Father?
Prayer Focus: Dedicate your whole life to God’s glory, asking Him to make you a vessel of His purposes.
This 7-day journey helps move the verse from head knowledge to daily practice—teaching you not just to pray in His name, but to live in His name.

Closing thoughts as we pray for those reading or hearing this verse today...
Dear Beloved in Christ,
The Power of Asking in His Name
Jesus gives us this beautiful promise in John 14:13 - “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
What an incredible reminder of the access we have to the heart of God through Christ.
Prayer is not about empty words or wishful thinking—it is a direct connection to the One who holds all power, wisdom, and love.

Today, let this verse encourage you to approach God with boldness and faith.
