Greetings,
The Mark of True Faith is Love
"Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." — 1 John 4:8

Unpacking the Message of Verse 1 John 4:8
1 John 4:8 is a powerful and humbling verse: “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” These words are not only doctrinal but deeply personal. They force us to look inward and assess the authenticity of our relationship with God, measured not by ritual or profession, but by the presence or absence of love in our lives.
At the heart of this verse is the profound identity of God. He is not merely loving, or one who does loving things—He is love itself. This means love is not an attribute He has, but the essence of who He is. All His actions, judgments, and intentions flow from this nature. It sets a divine standard: to know God is to know love. And to claim a relationship with Him while living in bitterness, resentment, or hate is a contradiction of spiritual reality.
Consider what this means for our personal relationships. If we harbor unforgiveness, judge others harshly, or refuse to serve with compassion, John’s words are a mirror. They reflect back at us the gap between what we say we believe and how we actually live. It is a clear line: if we are not actively pursuing love—especially love that costs us something—then we are not in true fellowship with the One we claim to follow.
But it also points to something incredibly hopeful: if we desire to grow in love, we’re actually desiring to grow in our knowledge of God. Every act of kindness, patience, mercy, or grace we extend in His name becomes a step toward deeper intimacy with Him. We are not only obeying a command—we are aligning our heart with the very heartbeat of heaven.
The verse also invites us to explore love in its truest form. This is not sentimental or superficial. Biblical love is rugged, costly, and self-sacrificing. It’s the kind of love that shows up for the undeserving, that speaks truth when it's hard, that lays down its rights for the good of others. It’s Christ on the cross saying, “Father, forgive them.” That kind of love is divine. That kind of love reveals God.

In a world where division, hate, and selfishness seem to dominate headlines, this verse reminds us that the most radical witness we can offer is love. Not vague tolerance, but Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered, action-oriented love. And when we love like that, we don't just represent God—we reveal Him.
So what does this mean for us today? It means we must examine how we treat our spouse, our children, our coworkers, our enemies. It means we must ask if our theology makes room for the poor, the broken, the outcast. It means we must be willing to be interrupted by the needs of others. It means we must pray for hearts that are soft and merciful rather than hardened and proud.
It also gives us a metric for spiritual maturity. Churches often equate maturity with knowledge, leadership, or longevity. But John offers a simpler measure: Do you love? If not, your understanding of God is still shallow. You may know facts about Him, but you do not know Him.
This verse is both convicting and freeing. Convicting, because it dismantles our excuses and self-righteousness. Freeing, because it assures us that to grow in love is to grow in God. We don’t have to master theology, become perfect, or have all the answers. We just need to open our hearts to love—real, risky, God-shaped love.
In the end, 1 John 4:8 gives us a path to walk: love others and in doing so, know God. Let this verse press into the core of your being and reshape how you approach each conversation, each prayer, and each relationship. Because if God is love, then every time we love well, we are touching eternity.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

Here is a 7-day weekly journaling plan based on the verse:
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” — 1 John 4:8
This verse carries a powerful, life-defining truth—that love is not optional for those who claim to know God. It's the evidence, the essence, and the overflow of truly walking with Him. This journaling plan will help you examine how love is present (or absent) in your daily life, and how to grow more deeply into the likeness of Christ.
Day 1 – Knowing God Through Love
Reflect on what it means to “know God.” How is love a demonstration of your relationship with Him? Write about moments when you've felt God's love firsthand and how those moments shaped your understanding of who He is.
Day 2 – The Nature of God’s Love
Meditate on the phrase “God is love.” Journal about the ways God has shown His love throughout Scripture and in your life personally. How is His love different from the world’s version of love?
Day 3 – Love as a Lifestyle
Ask yourself if love is your default posture. Do your daily actions—your words, tone, and attitude—reflect someone who knows God? Write about a recent interaction where love was (or wasn't) present. How could it have looked different?
Day 4 – Loving the Difficult
Write about someone in your life who is hard to love. What might God be teaching you through this relationship? Reflect on Jesus’ command to love your enemies. What does it cost to love without condition?
Day 5 – Love in Action
Journal about practical ways you can show God’s love today. It could be through patience, generosity, truthfulness, forgiveness, or encouragement. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to someone who needs love today—and be intentional.
Day 6 – When Love Is Absent
Be honest with yourself—when love is missing from your heart, what usually replaces it? Pride, fear, indifference? Reflect on what blocks the flow of love in your life. Confess those barriers and ask God to remove them.
Day 7 – Becoming Love
Revisit 1 John 4:8 and read the surrounding verses (1 John 4:7–21). Journal your thoughts about how knowing God compels us to become love to others. What changes can you commit to making in order to embody His love more fully?
This plan isn’t just about writing. It’s about realignment. God doesn’t simply show love—He is love, and the more time you spend in His presence, the more that truth will shape your identity and the way you treat others. Let your journaling be an act of intimacy with the God of love—and a mirror to examine your heart in His light.

Closing thoughts as we pray for those reading or hearing this verse today...
Dear Beloved in Christ,
The Mark of True Faith is Love
Love isn’t just something God does — love is who He is.
It’s the defining essence of His nature. And as His followers, it must become ours too.
"Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." — 1 John 4:8
This verse reminds us that our faith isn't measured by how much we know, but by how deeply we love.
It challenges us to reflect: Are we living in a way that reveals God's heart to others?
Today, choose compassion over criticism. Choose patience over pride. Choose love — especially when it’s difficult.
In doing so, we not only draw nearer to God… we reveal Him to the world.
Let His love flow through you today 🙏🏻
