Greetings,
He Hears You — And He Responds
“And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” — 1 John 5:15

Unpacking the Message of 1 John 5:15
The verse in 1 John 5:15 brings us into one of the most intimate truths in the entire Christian life: the God of heaven hears us. Not just in a distant or symbolic sense, but in a personal, attentive, fatherly way. John writes with absolute confidence, saying, “And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” There is a quiet boldness in this statement, a settled assurance that comes from walking closely with God long enough to trust that His ear is always inclined toward His children. Prayer is not a ritual here; it’s a relationship. John isn’t giving a theory—he’s describing the lived experience of believers who have learned to trust God’s heart even before they see God’s hand.
When John says “if we know that he hears us,” he’s pointing to the foundation of effective prayer: confidence. Not confidence in our words, our wish list, or our emotions, but confidence in God’s listening. Prayer begins not with talking, but with knowing—knowing that God pays attention, that He delights to listen, and that He receives every prayer with the tenderness of a perfect Father. Many believers pray without this certainty. They pray hoping God might hear. They pray wondering if their words reach past the ceiling. But John invites us into a deeper reality: you can know. You can be sure. The posture of prayer shifts radically when you’re no longer trying to get God’s attention and instead resting in the fact that you already have it.
This verse also challenges the way we think about “whatever we ask.” It’s not saying God becomes a cosmic vending machine or that He grants every desire exactly as we imagine it. Instead, John writes this within the greater context of praying according to God’s will, walking in obedience, loving God, and loving others. When your heart is aligned with God, your desires begin to reflect His desires, and your prayers become shaped by His purposes. So “whatever we ask” is not a blank check for the flesh; it is a wide-open invitation for the Spirit-led believer. When you seek God’s will, your prayers become powerful because they are connected to what God already intends to do. This is why Jesus says in John 15:7, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” The “whatever” becomes meaningful only when the “remaining” is real.
John then moves to an even stronger claim: “we know that we have what we asked of Him.” Notice the tense—“we have,” not “we will someday have.” John speaks as if the answer is already secured the moment God hears it. In the heavenly realm, the moment God receives a prayer aligned with His will, the answer is settled, even if the manifestation comes later in time. This is why faith is not waiting for evidence; faith is confidence in God’s character. When you pray in faith, you believe that God has already begun fulfilling what you asked—even if your eyes have not yet seen it. The timing, the form, the path may differ from your expectations, but the assurance remains that God has responded.
This perspective reshapes how we handle delay. Many people confuse delay with denial. They assume that if God doesn’t move quickly, He isn’t moving at all. But 1 John 5:15 tells us that God’s “yes” may be unfolding in processes, relationships, pruning, preparation, or spiritual warfare. Sometimes God is aligning circumstances. Sometimes He’s aligning us. Sometimes He’s protecting us from what we asked for. And sometimes He’s preparing something infinitely better. Faith doesn’t demand immediate results; faith trusts God’s perfect timing with peace.

The verse also pushes us to examine what “hearing” means in God’s vocabulary. When God hears, He acts. He responds. He moves. He does not hear passively; He hears purposefully. His hearing is tied to His love, His wisdom, and His redemptive plan for our lives. A human parent might hear a child ask for something harmful and say no—not out of rejection, but out of protection. But even the “no” is a form of active care. God is the same. His hearing is always love, even when the answer is different from what we envisioned. A believer who understands this finds rest, not frustration, in the mystery of God’s responses.
This verse also reveals something profound about the nature of prayer: prayer aligns us with God more than it attempts to align God with us. When we pray, we are not trying to make God do our will; we are stepping into His will. We are inviting His kingdom, His authority, His wisdom, and His perspective into our situation. Prayer is the bridge between heaven’s intentions and earth’s realities. When you pray with confidence that God hears, you are positioning your heart to receive, to trust, and to follow however He leads. King David prayed this way. Jesus prayed this way. The apostles prayed this way. And John invites us into the same rhythm.
If God hears us, then prayer is never a waste of time. It is not a last resort; it’s the first response. It’s not a burden; it’s a privilege. It’s not a religious duty; it’s a relationship with the One who governs the universe yet bends low to listen to His children. When you pray with the confidence of 1 John 5:15, you don’t come timidly, apologetically, or half-believing. You come boldly, because Scripture says you can approach the throne of grace with confidence. Not because of your goodness, but because of His invitation.
Reflect also on how this truth transforms daily living. When you truly believe God hears you, anxiety loses its grip, because you don’t carry your burdens alone. Fear quiets, because you have a Father who listens. Decision-making becomes clearer, because you trust God to guide. Gratitude deepens, because you see answered prayers not as coincidences but as the faithful response of your Father. And perseverance strengthens, because you know that God is working, even when you cannot see the evidence yet.
Finally, this verse invites us to a lifestyle of continual communion. Prayer is not an emergency measure; it is a way of life. It is a posture of dependence. It is an ongoing, unbroken connection with the God who delights in hearing from His children. You can talk to Him as you drive, as you work, as you rest, as you struggle, as you celebrate. The more you practice this, the more confident you become that God is involved in every detail of your life. Prayer becomes less about presenting requests and more about walking with God through everything.
So 1 John 5:15 is not merely a verse about prayer; it’s a foundational truth about relationship. The God who hears is the God who cares. The God who cares is the God who responds. And the God who responds is the God who invites us to trust Him without fear, without hesitation, and without doubt. Your prayers matter. Your voice matters. Your needs matter. Because you matter to Him.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

Closing thoughts as we pray for those reading or hearing this verse today...
Dear Beloved in Christ,
He Hears You — And He Responds
There is a confidence God wants you to walk in every single day—an unshakable assurance that your prayers are not wasted, ignored, or overlooked. They are heard.
Scripture gives us this incredible promise:
“And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” — 1 John 5:15
What a gift. What a truth. What a God we serve.
Your prayers are not hitting the ceiling. They are not bouncing back unheard. The Creator of the universe bends His ear toward you.
He listens with perfect love, perfect understanding, and perfect timing.
This verse doesn’t promise that God gives us everything we wish for—but it does promise something deeper: That when we pray according to His will, He moves on our behalf. He responds with wisdom, power, and purpose.
So don’t stop praying. Don’t stop asking. Don’t stop believing.
Keep your heart aligned with His, keep your faith engaged, and keep your confidence rooted in His Word. He hears you—and He is working even in the moments you can’t see yet.
Stand boldly today in the assurance that your prayers matter… because your Father listens.
In Christ’s love 🙏🏻
