Greetings,
Following the Example Jesus Set for Us
“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.” — John 13:14

Unpacking the Message of John 13:14
When Jesus says, “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet,” He is inviting us into one of the most radical expressions of the gospel: a lifestyle of humble, sacrificial, others-focused service. To understand the weight of this moment, you have to picture the room. This isn’t a casual dinner. It’s the night before Jesus goes to the cross. Every step, every word, every act is intentional. And instead of using His final hours to seek comfort or honor, Jesus chooses to kneel at the feet of the very men who will soon scatter, doubt, deny, or betray Him. This tells us something profound: serving others is not something we do because people deserve it. We serve because this is what love does—this is who Jesus is—and He wants this same heart to be formed in us.
In those days, washing feet was one of the lowest tasks in the household. Roads were dusty, sandals were basic, and feet were cracked and filthy. Only the lowest servant performed it. So when Jesus removes His outer garment, wraps a towel around His waist, and begins washing the disciples' feet, He is reversing every expectation of power, every cultural hierarchy, every entitlement that humans cling to. The King of glory is performing the duty of a household slave. And the most shocking part is that He doesn’t do it reluctantly or half-heartedly. He washes every foot. He washes Peter’s feet—the same Peter who will deny Him three times before sunrise. He washes Thomas’s feet—the one who will later doubt His resurrection. He washes Judas’s feet—the one who has already made the deal to betray Him. Jesus is demonstrating that love does not choose favorites. Love does not wait for perfect faithfulness. Love serves even when service is not reciprocated, appreciated, or understood.
When Jesus stands and says, “You also should wash one another’s feet,” He is not giving us a symbolic suggestion; He is teaching us a posture. Foot-washing represents the willingness to go low, to do the hidden things, to serve without applause, to step into discomfort for the sake of another person’s dignity and peace. It is a call to a lifestyle where no task is beneath us if it helps lift someone else. In a world obsessed with being first, Jesus calls us to the last place. In a world chasing influence, He calls us to influence through humility. In a world where people fight for platform, Jesus teaches us that greatness is measured in how closely our hearts match His.
Growing in this verse requires more than understanding the story—it requires allowing the Spirit to reshape the way we think about people. It’s easy to serve those who think like us, thank us, or treat us well. But true Christlike service is revealed when we serve those who are difficult, inconvenient, or unlikely to ever repay us. Jesus washed the feet of His betrayer. Can we serve someone who has simply irritated us? Jesus knelt before men who didn’t understand Him. Can we show patience to people who misunderstand us? Jesus poured out grace on people who were spiritually immature. Can we care for those who haven’t “arrived” yet? When this kind of humility grows in you, you begin to look like Him.
Foot-washing also symbolizes cleansing—not physical cleansing, but spiritual refreshing. Sometimes people in our lives are walking through dirtiness of shame, confusion, grief, or doubt. And God uses you to gently “wash their feet” by offering compassion, encouragement, forgiveness, or prayer. Serving others in the spirit of Christ brings healing. It restores dignity. It reminds people of their worth. Your presence, your kindness, your willingness to get involved in someone else’s mess can be the very tool God uses to restore them.

This verse also challenges our pride. Peter initially resisted Jesus washing his feet. He couldn’t imagine allowing the Lord to stoop so low. And many believers today still resist being served. They want to serve others but struggle to receive help, correction, or spiritual care. Jesus shows us that humility flows both ways: not only serving, but allowing ourselves to be served. When we refuse help, we subtly cling to independence and self-reliance. But when we accept grace from others, we acknowledge the body of Christ at work. Foot-washing requires vulnerability from both the giver and the receiver.
To live this out daily, we must ask God to open our eyes to opportunities. Serving will rarely show up as a grand assignment. It will often be something simple, unseen, and ordinary—listening without distraction, offering encouragement, meeting a need quietly, showing patience when it’s easier not to, choosing forgiveness instead of resentment. These small acts become sacred when done with the heart of Jesus. When you adopt His posture, your home becomes a place of peace, your workplace becomes a mission field, and your relationships become testimonies of His character.
There’s also a prophetic layer to this moment. Jesus is preparing His disciples to lead the early church. He knows that pride, ego, and ambition are quick to creep into spiritual roles. So before they ever preach, heal the sick, cast out demons, or plant churches, He teaches them how to serve. He teaches them how to go low before asking them to go out. This is the spiritual pattern: humility before influence, servanthood before leadership, character before calling. If you want to be used by God in greater ways, begin by embracing the towel.
Finally, this act points us back to the cross. Foot-washing was a preview of the ultimate service Jesus was preparing to offer. He knelt with a towel that night, but He would be lifted up on a cross the next day. The feet He washed would soon be walking in confusion and fear—but He washed them anyway. Why? Because His love was never dependent on their performance. He served because love compelled Him. And that same love empowers us now. When we wash one another’s feet through acts of humble service, we aren’t just obeying a command—we are revealing Christ Himself to the world.
This verse invites us into a lifelong posture of humility, a daily commitment to lowering ourselves so Christ can be lifted high in our relationships, our choices, and our conduct. When we live this way, we become living echoes of the Savior who knelt, served, and loved us to the very end.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

Here is our complete 7-day journaling plan built around John 13:14, each day including a matching opening and closing prayer. It is devotional, reflective, and designed to help the reader grow in Christlike humility and service.
“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.” — John 13:14
Day 1 — Understanding the Example of Jesus
Focus: Reflecting on Jesus as both Lord and Servant.
Opening Prayer: Lord Jesus, open my heart today to truly understand the depth of Your humility. Help me see not just what You did, but why You did it. Lead me into greater revelation as I begin this journey. Amen.
Journal Prompt: What does it mean to you that the Creator of the universe knelt and washed the feet of His disciples? How does this challenge your understanding of leadership, strength, and greatness? Write honestly about any areas where pride hinders you.
Closing Prayer: Jesus, thank You for showing me what true greatness looks like. Teach me to follow Your example in my everyday life. Mold my heart into one that loves like You love. Amen.
Day 2 — Identifying Barriers to Humility
Focus: Recognizing pride, fear, or insecurity that keeps us from serving others.
Opening Prayer: Heavenly Father, reveal to me the things within my heart that resist humility. Shine Your light on anything that keeps me from serving freely. In Your mercy, refine me. Amen.
Journal Prompt: What makes it difficult for you to humble yourself? Are there specific situations, people, or thoughts that make serving uncomfortable? Write about barriers you’ve noticed and ask God’s help in overcoming them.
Closing Prayer: Father, thank You for exposing these areas gently. Give me strength to surrender them to You. Transform my heart and make humility my natural posture. Amen.
Day 3 — Serving Without Recognition
Focus: Learning to serve in hidden, unseen ways.
Opening Prayer: Lord, help me release every need for recognition or affirmation. Purify my motives so I serve out of love, not out of desire for praise. Amen.
Journal Prompt: Think of a time you served quietly or wished someone noticed your sacrifice. How does Jesus’ example challenge your desire for acknowledgment? What unseen acts of service could you begin practicing?
Closing Prayer: Jesus, free me from the need for applause. Let every act of service be done for You alone. Shape my heart into one that honors You privately as much as publicly. Amen.
Day 4 — Loving the Difficult People
Focus: Serving people who are hard to love—just as Jesus washed Judas’ feet.
Opening Prayer: Lord, give me courage and grace today. Open my eyes to the people I resist loving. Teach me to extend compassion even when it feels undeserved. Amen.
Journal Prompt: Who in your life is difficult to serve or love? What emotions arise when you think about serving them? Reflect on Jesus washing Judas’ feet. How does that example stretch your capacity to love?
Closing Prayer: Jesus, soften my heart toward those who challenge me. Help me honor You by serving even when it's uncomfortable. Fill me with supernatural love. Amen.
Day 5 — Serving Through Encouragement & Presence
Focus: Understanding that foot-washing symbolizes emotional and spiritual support.
Opening Prayer: Holy Spirit, tune my heart to notice those who need encouragement today. Help me be present, patient, and compassionate as You lead me. Amen.
Journal Prompt: Who in your life needs “their feet washed” through encouragement, prayer, or friendship? What is one practical act you can commit to doing today to lift someone up?
Closing Prayer: Lord, thank You for showing me the power of simple acts of love. Use my words and presence to bring refreshment to others. Amen.
Day 6 — Allowing Others to Serve You
Focus: Practicing humility by receiving help and grace from others.
Opening Prayer: Father, give me humility not just to serve, but also to be served. Remove any pride that keeps me from receiving. Teach me the beauty of mutual care. Amen.
Journal Prompt: Do you struggle to receive help, encouragement, or correction? Write about why. What might God want to heal or grow in you through allowing others to serve you?
Closing Prayer: Lord, thank You for placing people in my life to strengthen me. Help me receive grace with a humble heart and recognize Your hand working through others. Amen.
Day 7 — Becoming a Servant Like Christ
Focus: Committing to a lifestyle of Christlike service.
Opening Prayer: Jesus, as I come to this final day, seal in me the heart of a servant. Let my life reflect Your love and humility everywhere I go. Make me more like You. Amen.
Journal Prompt: Based on everything you’ve learned this week, what kind of servant do you feel God is shaping you into? What specific habits or practices will you continue? Write a personal commitment statement inspired by Jesus’ example in John 13:14.
Closing Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for this week of growth. I surrender my life to Your pattern of humility and service. Empower me daily to wash the feet of others in every way You lead. May my life glorify You. Amen.

Closing thoughts as we pray for those reading or hearing this verse today...
Dear Beloved in Christ,
Following the Example Jesus Set for Us
There are moments in Scripture where Jesus doesn’t just tell us how to live—He shows us. John 13:14 is one of those powerful moments:
“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.” — John 13:14
Think about this… the King of Kings kneels down, grabs a towel, and washes the dust-covered feet of His disciples. The Son of God—perfect, holy, all-powerful—chooses the posture of a servant. Not to put on a show. Not to earn favor. Not to appear humble.
But to teach us what love actually looks like...
Jesus is reminding us that true greatness is found in serving others, especially when it’s inconvenient, unnoticed, or uncomfortable. Real discipleship is shaped not in moments of applause, but in quiet acts of love.
As followers of Christ, this verse challenges us to pause and ask ourselves:
Where can I kneel lower?
Whose burden can I help lift today?
What would “washing feet” look like in my daily life?
It might be offering forgiveness, extending patience, giving time, sharing resources, listening without judgment, or encouraging someone who feels unseen. And when we serve others from the heart, we reflect the heart of Jesus Himself.
My prayer for you today is that the Holy Spirit opens your eyes to someone who needs the love of Christ through you—and that He fills you with the humility and joy to serve boldly, cheerfully, and sacrificially.
Keep following His example. Keep loving like He loved.
You’re making more of a difference than you know.
In Christ 🙏🏻
