Greetings,
A New Birth, A New Beginning 🌿
“Jesus answered, ‘Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.’” — John 3:5

Unpacking the Message of Verse John 3:5
John 3:5 says, “Jesus answered, ‘Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.’” This powerful statement by Jesus is part of His conversation with Nicodemus, a Pharisee and member of the Jewish ruling council. It's one of the most foundational verses in understanding spiritual rebirth and salvation, and unpacking its meaning can profoundly enrich a believer’s walk with God.
The first truth revealed in this verse is that entrance into the kingdom of God is not automatic—it is conditional. Jesus begins by saying “Very truly,” which in the original Greek is Amen, amen, a double affirmation of truth, used only when He is emphasizing something of deep spiritual weight. What follows is not a suggestion, but a spiritual law: no one can enter unless they are born of both water and the Spirit. This shows that something more than human effort, intellect, or religious heritage is required to see or enter God’s kingdom. Nicodemus, a devout religious man, is being shown that his status, rituals, and study of the law are not enough.
When Jesus says “born of water,” many interpret this as a reference to physical birth, especially since the context compares earthly birth to spiritual birth. Others understand "water" here to refer to baptism, which was already a common practice through John the Baptist. If baptism is meant, then Jesus is emphasizing that repentance and outward identification with God's cleansing are part of the process of spiritual transformation. But it is not the water alone that transforms—it must be paired with the Spirit.
Being “born of the Spirit” means receiving new life from God, initiated by the Holy Spirit. This spiritual rebirth is a divine act, not a human one. The Spirit of God is the One who convicts, regenerates, and renews. This rebirth is the fulfillment of what was prophesied in Ezekiel 36:25–27, where God promised to sprinkle clean water on His people, cleanse them from impurities, give them a new heart, and put His Spirit within them. Jesus is drawing upon this ancient promise and revealing that it is now being fulfilled in Him.
So, what does it mean practically to be “born of water and the Spirit”? It means that transformation into a citizen of the kingdom of God involves an inner change—dying to self and being made alive through the Spirit. This new birth cannot be inherited or achieved. It is received by faith. Jesus is leading Nicodemus, and us, away from performance-based religion and into a relationship-based salvation.

This verse also reminds us that spiritual rebirth is not merely an emotional experience—it is a divine transaction. The old self is buried, and a new creation arises. Paul echoes this in 2 Corinthians 5:17, saying that if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation; the old has gone, and the new is here.
Reflecting on this verse challenges us to examine our own spiritual condition. Have we truly been born again—not just attending church or performing religious duties, but truly surrendered to the Spirit of God? This passage is not just a theological lesson; it’s an invitation to transformation. If someone has only experienced religion but not rebirth, they may still be standing outside the kingdom, no matter how moral or educated they are.
Furthermore, this verse should instill humility and hope. Humility, because none of us can enter the kingdom by our own merit; hope, because this new birth is available to anyone, regardless of past sins, current struggles, or social status. The Holy Spirit is not limited by human boundaries.
Jesus’s words also hint at the continual nature of living by the Spirit. Being “born” is just the beginning. Once we are made new, we are to walk daily in the Spirit, growing in grace, truth, and the likeness of Christ. That’s why Paul encourages believers in Galatians 5 to “walk by the Spirit” so that we don’t gratify the desires of the flesh. A life born of the Spirit is not just a momentary event—it is a transformed lifestyle, a new orientation toward the things of God.
This verse calls for an inner awakening. It asks us to lay down what we think we know about religious life and instead embrace a deeply personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. It asks us to be honest about whether we’ve just “added” Jesus to our lives or truly surrendered to the transformation He brings. And it reminds us that no matter who we are, Jesus offers a new beginning—not just better behavior, but a brand new heart.
So today, take this verse seriously. Don’t just read it—receive it. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what it means to live as someone who’s been truly born again. Consider what old habits, mindsets, or identities need to die so that the new life can rise. Let Jesus’s words to Nicodemus stir something eternal in you. Because when you're born of water and the Spirit, you don’t just gain entrance into a kingdom—you begin to live like royalty even here on earth.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!
