Greetings,
A Love That Reflects Christ
"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good." — Romans 12:9

Unpacking the Message of Verse Romans 12:9
Romans 12:9 — "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good." — is a concise but profound statement that challenges us to examine the quality and integrity of our love, the way we discern good from evil, and how we are called to live in alignment with God’s truth. This verse holds immense depth and relevance for both personal growth and community living.
Let’s begin with the first phrase: "Love must be sincere." The original Greek uses the term “anupokritos,” which means “without hypocrisy.” This isn't simply a call to be kind on the surface or polite in public. It’s a command for genuine love—love that is not performance, not manipulation, and not mere emotion. It is love that comes from the heart and is consistent in both words and actions. This kind of love reflects God's love—unconditional, honest, and holy. Think about how often we are tempted to pretend to care, to offer flattery, or to love when it’s convenient. True Christian love, however, requires transparency, commitment, and self-sacrifice. It's love that shows up when it’s hard, when it costs something, and when there's nothing to gain in return.
This kind of sincerity in love demands deep self-reflection. Are we loving others to be seen? Are we giving just enough to protect our own comfort or image? Are we forgiving only when we get something in return, or are we truly extending grace the way Christ has? Love that is sincere doesn’t just tolerate people; it seeks their good. It confronts with gentleness. It serves with humility. And most importantly, it remains rooted in truth, not just emotion.
Then Paul tells us to "hate what is evil." That might seem like a strong word. Hate. But the scripture is very clear: we are not to be neutral toward evil, nor should we be fascinated, amused, or entertained by it. To hate evil is to have a deep, moral revulsion toward anything that opposes God’s will and corrupts His creation. It’s not about hating people—it's about hating lies, injustice, cruelty, greed, pride, lust, and every form of sin that breaks down relationships and distances us from God.
This instruction pushes us to think about what we tolerate or embrace in our daily lives. Are we comfortable with things that God calls evil? Are we passive when we see injustice? Have we become numb to sin through repetition or cultural normalization? To hate evil, we must first recognize it. That takes spiritual discernment and the willingness to see our own hearts clearly. It means identifying not only the evil we see in the world but the subtle compromises we make in our own decisions. It’s easy to be outraged at societal corruption but turn a blind eye to our own selfishness, envy, or pride.

Lastly, Paul says: "Cling to what is good." That word "cling" is powerful. It suggests a tenacity, a determination, a refusal to let go. We are not called to casually admire what is good; we are to hold onto it with conviction and endurance. This is an active pursuit. Goodness doesn’t always feel easy or natural. It’s not just about good behavior; it’s about pursuing the things that reflect God’s nature—truth, integrity, humility, compassion, and holiness. Clinging to what is good means building habits around the disciplines of righteousness. It means feeding our minds with Scripture, surrounding ourselves with truth-tellers, committing to community, and being intentional with our time and choices.
It also means not being swayed by convenience, popularity, or fear. In a world that often calls evil good and good evil, we need moral courage to stand firm. Clinging to good requires us to reject shortcuts, resist bitterness, and remain faithful when it feels easier to conform. The good is not always glamorous, and it doesn’t always bring instant results. But it is eternally rewarding and it reflects the heart of God.
Put all together, Romans 12:9 paints a picture of a life radically different from the world’s values. A life where love is pure and powerful. A life where evil is not tolerated or excused. A life where goodness is pursued with purpose. Imagine the impact if our homes, churches, and communities were shaped by people who lived this out. People whose love was authentic, whose hearts were grieved by evil, and whose lives overflowed with goodness. That’s not just moral living—it’s holy living. That’s the kind of life that makes people curious about the gospel.
This verse isn’t just about personal ethics; it’s about embodying the kingdom of God on earth. In a world full of superficiality and self-interest, sincere love stands out. In a time when evil is normalized and often glorified, hatred of evil marks us as different. And in a culture that often drifts aimlessly, clinging to what is good anchors us in God’s eternal truth.
If you're looking to grow in spiritual maturity, Romans 12:9 offers both a mirror and a map. It shows us where our hearts might still be divided, and it guides us toward a life of deeper integrity and purpose. Ask God to reveal where your love needs more sincerity, where you've made peace with evil, and how you can cling more tightly to what is good. That is a prayer He is always ready to answer.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

Closing thoughts as we pray for those reading or hearing this verse today...
Dear Beloved in Christ,
A Love That Reflects Christ
In a world where love is often diluted or distorted, God calls us to something deeper—something real.
"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good." — Romans 12:9
This verse reminds us that true love—Christ-like love—is not just about words or feelings.
It’s a way of life. It’s genuine, not performative.
It calls us to stand against what is evil and to hold fast to what is good, even when it’s hard.
Let your love today be authentic and rooted in truth.
Reflect Jesus in how you love your family, friends, and even those who may be difficult to love. That’s the kind of love that changes the world.
In His love 🙏🏻
