Greetings,
A Compassionate and Gracious God ✝️

Unpacking the Message of Psalm 86:15
Psalm 85:16 is a deeply personal plea that reveals both the need of the human heart and the restoring nature of God. When the psalmist cries, “Turn to us, God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us,” he is expressing a longing for renewed relationship. This verse assumes that something has disrupted the sense of closeness with God, and it reflects a desire not just for relief, but for restoration of fellowship.
The request for God to “turn” is not about changing God’s nature, but about experiencing His favor again. From a human perspective, it can feel as though God has turned away when sin, hardship, or discipline enters our lives. The psalmist voices what many believers feel in such seasons—a yearning for God’s presence to be felt once more. This longing shows that the soul was created for intimacy with God and cannot be satisfied without Him.
Addressing God as “our Savior” anchors the prayer in hope. Even in a moment of perceived distance, the psalmist remembers who God is. He is not only judge, but rescuer. This title reflects confidence that God’s ultimate intention is to restore, not to abandon. It reminds believers that God’s past acts of salvation are a foundation for trusting Him in present need.
The mention of God’s “displeasure” points to His holiness and justice. God does not overlook wrongdoing or treat sin lightly. His displeasure is not uncontrolled anger, but a righteous response to what distorts and damages His creation. This truth is essential because it reveals that the relationship with God is real and meaningful, not superficial or indifferent.
At the same time, the psalmist’s prayer shows that God’s displeasure is not the final word. The request for it to be put away reflects confidence in God’s mercy. It acknowledges that while sin creates distance, God provides a way for that distance to be overcome. This dynamic between justice and mercy is at the heart of God’s character.
Psalm 85:16 also models honest prayer. The psalmist does not hide his condition or pretend everything is well. Instead, he speaks openly, bringing his need directly to God. This teaches believers that authenticity in prayer is not only acceptable, but essential. God invites His people to approach Him with truth rather than pretense.

The verse implies a recognition of responsibility. While the psalmist asks God to turn toward His people, there is also an understanding that the people themselves must turn back to God. Restoration is relational and involves both divine grace and human response. This highlights the role of repentance as a pathway back to closeness with God.
This plea also carries a tone of urgency. The psalmist is not indifferent about spiritual distance; he desires immediate restoration. This urgency reflects a heart that values God’s presence above comfort or routine. It challenges believers to consider whether they long for God with the same intensity.
Psalm 85:16 points forward to the ultimate resolution of this tension in Jesus Christ. Through Christ, God’s displeasure toward sin is fully addressed, and reconciliation is made possible. The distance that the psalmist feels is ultimately bridged through the cross, where justice and mercy meet.
The verse encourages believers to seek God actively in times of spiritual dryness or discipline. It reassures them that feeling distant does not mean being abandoned. God remains attentive and ready to restore those who call on Him. This creates confidence that no season of struggle is beyond His reach.
Ultimately, Psalm 85:16 reveals a God who desires restoration more than separation. His heart leans toward mercy, and His identity as Savior ensures that those who seek Him are not turned away. The verse invites believers into a cycle of honest prayer, repentance, and renewed relationship.
In the end, this verse is both a cry and a promise. It expresses the human need for God’s nearness and affirms that such nearness is available. When believers turn to God with sincerity, they encounter a Savior who responds with grace, restoring what has been lost and drawing them back into His presence.

A prominent verse related to generational stewardship of money is Proverbs 13:22, which states, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children."
This verse suggests that part of being a good steward of wealth includes planning for the future and ensuring the well-being of future generations of kingdom builders.
This verse is often cited in discussions about financial planning and legacy, it's important to remember that the Bible also emphasizes the importance of giving to those in need and being content with what one has, rather than accumulating wealth for its own sake.
The focus should be on using resources wisely and for God's glory first and foremost, NOT simply leaving a large sum of generational money.
My mission is to serve followers of Christ through helping them become builders of His kingdom. Trading is NOT a get rich scheme, rather it's a skillset that when applied from the perspective of stewarding God's wealth and will first, proves to be incredibly fulfilling!

Psalm 85:16 is not just a prayer—it is a pattern for how to respond when you feel distant from God, weighed down, or spiritually unsettled.
“Turn to us, God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us.”
This verse teaches you how to handle moments when your faith feels strained. It moves you from confusion → honesty → dependence → restoration.
Let’s walk through how to apply this deeply in daily living through intentional journaling and practice.
1. Recognize when something feels “off” spiritually
The psalmist knew something wasn’t right. He didn’t ignore it.
Many believers push through spiritual dryness, distraction, or conviction without addressing it.
Journal Prompt:
Where in my life do I feel distant, unsettled, or spiritually off right now?
Application:
Pause and name it. Don’t distract yourself. Awareness is the first step to restoration.
2. Stop pretending—start being honest with God
The psalmist doesn’t mask his condition. He speaks directly.
Journal Prompt:
If I spoke honestly to God right now, what would I say?
Application:
Pray without editing. No “perfect” language. Say exactly what you feel—confusion, frustration, guilt, numbness. Real relationship grows through real honesty.
3. Remember who God is before focusing on what’s wrong
He says: “God our Savior.”
Even in distance, he anchors himself in God’s character.
Journal Prompt:
When I feel distant from God, do I focus more on my failure or His faithfulness?
Application:
Before asking God to change your situation, remind yourself:“He is still my Savior. He has not changed.”
4. Understand conviction vs rejection
“Put away your displeasure…” acknowledges that something needs to change—but not that God has abandoned him.
Journal Prompt:
Am I interpreting conviction as rejection?
Application:
When you feel conviction, don’t withdraw. Move closer. Conviction is an invitation, not a verdict.
5. Take responsibility where needed
This verse implies something has caused the distance.
Journal Prompt:
Is there anything in my life that I need to turn from—attitudes, habits, decisions, patterns?
Application:
Identify one thing clearly. Don’t generalize. Specific repentance leads to real change.
6. Ask God to restore—not just relieve
The psalmist isn’t just asking for relief from discomfort. He’s asking for restored relationship.
Journal Prompt:
Do I want God to fix my feelings, or restore my closeness with Him?
Application:
Shift your prayer from “Make me feel better” to“Bring me closer to You.”
7. Make turning back a daily habit, not a one-time event
Restoration is not a one-time moment—it’s a rhythm.
Journal Prompt:
What helps me reconnect with God quickly when I drift?
Application:
Create a reset practice:• 2 minutes of honest prayer• 1 verse of Scripture• 1 act of surrender
Do this every time you feel distance.
8. Expect God to respond with mercy
The psalmist prays because he believes God will respond.
Journal Prompt:
Do I expect God to restore me, or do I secretly believe I have to fix myself first?
Application:
Replace delay with confidence:“God is more ready to restore than I am to return.”
9. Watch how God restores you
Restoration often comes quietly—through peace, clarity, conviction, or renewed desire.
Journal Prompt:
Where have I already seen God begin to restore me?
Application:
Track small changes. Restoration rarely happens instantly—it unfolds.
10. Let restoration deepen your dependence
Every time God restores you, it strengthens your trust.
Journal Prompt:
How has God’s faithfulness in past struggles shaped my trust today?
Application:
Build a habit of remembering. What you remember strengthens what you believe.
Daily Reflection Practice
Each day, write:
• Where did I feel connected or distant from God today?
• Did I respond with honesty or avoidance?
• What step brought me closer to Him?
Then pray:
“Lord, turn my heart toward You again. I trust You to restore what feels distant.”
Final Truth
God is not waiting for you to be perfect.
He is waiting for you to turn.
Psalm 85:16 is not about earning closeness.
It is about returning to it.

Closing thoughts as we pray for those reading or hearing this verse today...
Heavenly Father,
We come before You with grateful hearts, humbled by the truth of who You are. You are compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and overflowing with love and faithfulness. Thank You that Your character is steady and unchanging, even when our hearts are not.
Lord, help us truly believe this about You. When we fall short or feel distant, remind us that You are not quick to condemn but rich in mercy. Teach us to run toward You, not away from You, trusting that Your grace is greater than our failures.
Shape our hearts to reflect Your character. Where we are impatient, teach us to be slow to anger. Where we are harsh, teach us compassion. Where we are inconsistent, grow in us faithfulness. Let Your love overflow from our lives so that others may see You through us.
Jesus, thank You for revealing the fullness of God’s love and grace. Draw us closer to You each day, and anchor our faith in the truth that You are always patient, always kind, and always faithful.
We trust You, Lord, and we rest in Your unfailing love. In the name of Jesus Amen 🙏🏻
